There's a subtle but important issue here, I think: to be precise, "Hope Is a Thing With Feathers" is not a poem by Emily Dickinson. Like all of the poem's in Dickinson's manuscripts (she did not publish her poetry), the poem has no title, but is conventionally referred to by the first line, which is: "Hope" is the thing with feathers. (I leave off quotation marks around the title so one can see that she has the first word in quotation marks.)
