History section to prose - proposal.

[edit]

I've written the information provided in the article History section into a prose format. The links are the provided citations (minus one that's throwing a 404 error). If people agree this an acceptable fix, I'm happy to make the changes. I also intend to throw a tag on it requesting more citations for this section if I'm not able to locate more in the mean time. Let me know what you think!

"The Hong Kong Red Cross was established on 12 July 1950 as a branch of the British Red Cross Society. In 1952, it began providing blood collection services, followed by the establishment of its first hospital school in 1954 and the formation of its first cadet unit at St. Francis' Canossian School in 1956.

Subsequent milestones include the inauguration of the Princess Alexandra Red Cross Children's Residential School in 1962, the opening of the Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters at Harcourt Road in 1965, and the launch of the Red Cross Holiday Camp at Shek Pik, Lantau Island in 1968. In 1975, the organization introduced the Medical Equipment Loan Service and started offering first aid training courses to the public and industrial workers in 1977.

In 1991, the Hong Kong Red Cross raised funds to provide relief for flood victims in the Eastern provinces of the People's Republic of China. The first uniformed Elderly Volunteers Unit was established in 1992. Despite the transfer of sovereignty to the People's Republic of China in 1997, https://www.cmab.gov.hk/en/issues/jd2.htm the autonomy of the Hong Kong Red Cross remained unchanged, as protected under the Sino-British Joint Declaration. https://www.redcross.org.hk/en/rcmovement/global.html

The organization responded promptly to the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Hong Kong in 2003. The Hong Kong Red Cross celebrated its Golden Jubilees in 2000 and 2006 to commemorate its history of humanitarian work." Se7enNationArmy2024 (talk) 22:13, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
