"No New Scientific Evidence"

[edit]

This is a major claim, and cites NO sources for the claim. It also seems to be pushing a heterosexist point of view. 173.66.5.216 (talk) 19:54, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. The user who put forth the claim that there was there is no scientific evidence supporting the change in DSM (as he wrote: "as the APA changed it based on VOTE[8] not scientific evidence, there were no new scientific evidence supporting such change."). If that is the case, why does the paragraph immediately before state "in December the American Psychiatric Association removes homosexuality from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-II), based largely on the research and advocacy of Evelyn Hooker." so: if there was no scientific evidence, what did Evelyn Hooker's research count as? This sounds like a homophobic attack by an uneducated person who would rather make gay people out to be mentally ill so they will have a legitimate reason to continue to marginalize and stop homosexuals and LGBTQ people from living their life. So, I took out the hateful lies. 70.53.4.209 (talk) 18:53, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Completely rewrote page

[edit]

I've completed rewritten this page to tell a fuller story of how homosexuality has been treated in the DSM over the years, as well as additional background details on how changes came about. It was a big labor of love; hope folks find it helpful! RadicalCopyeditor (talk) 19:00, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
