[edit]should be combined with Hox_gene, its the exact same topic.
I disagree. Hox genes appear to be a subset of homeotic genes. I believe a hox gene is a homeotic gene with a homeobox domain. Importantly I don't think that plants have hox genes, but they do have homeotic genes (they lack homeobox domains). The difference between hox and homeobox genes really must be clarified in the article. I'm not certain that this is the difference between hox and homeobox genes, so I'm not going to change the article myself. http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2006/04/30/a-brief-overview-of-hox-genes/ Wise zoologist (talk) 16:15, 28 April 2013 (UTC) I have looked up the difference and clarified it in the article.Wise zoologist (talk) 16:59, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
In fact, Hox genes are a subset of homeotic genes, as all of them express transcription factors for development. Hence, it is fair to say that every Hox gene is a homeotic gene, but not every homeotic gene is a Hox gene. -> Changed. 131.215.220.166 (talk) 00:14, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Hello! I am considering working on developing this page for an educational assignment in Fall 2013. I was wondering if anyone else is working on the page as well? Please message me if you are, so that we don't end up duplicating efforts in developing the page Allielew00 (talk) 20:55, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
Although this page gives good insight on the fact that homeotic genes influence developmental patterns, some information on how these genes do so would be useful. Additionally, a solid definition of homeotic gene early in the article would allow a reader to get a better grasp on the idea quickly and without having to read the entire article. I am going to be working on this article for adgen at UWO. I would be adding a section on homeotic genes in humans, adding a section on homeotic genes in plants, and adding to the pre-existing section about homeotic genes in drosphillia. - P.dangles
