Sourcing problem
[edit]Most of the article in its current form is a quote from subject's about-the-author page from HuffPo, which is
- not a third-party source, as she is writing for them and is thus affiliated (and such pieces are often written by the subject themselves)
- a poor source for the boastful material that is being quoted, which seem key to any claim of notability
- a WP:COPYVIO problem.
Hence I am tagging the article for its reliance on non-third party source. --Nat Gertler (talk) 13:49, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- Nat, a lot (all?) of what's in the HP synopsis is also in the other, independent sources. Please don't tag new articles while the creator is still working on them, it's a distraction and, ultimately, a waste of time for both of us.
- As for the boastfulness of the content - it's a direct quote from the HP synopsis. I pasted it there for now, as, just now, I'm simply collecting facts about the woman. The final article will probably look nothing like this. Now, as I am constructing it from a blank sheet, it's just a collection of facts. I suppose I'll trim half of the sources by the time I'm finished, because all the claims are found in multiple sources.
- As for the claim of copyvio, it's not. They're quotes. In quotation marks. Cited. And they're not going to stay quotes. I'll paraphrase them if I use those facts.
- As I said on your talk page, this is a problem of NPPers tagging articles too early. Please do review the article when I've finished for the day, but doing it now, when you don't know where I'm going with it, is just a waste of time. --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 13:57, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)May I suggest that if your article is not ready to be commented upon, you keep it in the WP:DRAFTS space rather than in main article space? In any case, having a tag on your article does not prevent you from editing it; rather than trying to edit-war away the tag, you should address the problem first, and then only remove the tag once that particular problem is complete. --Nat Gertler (talk) 14:08, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- Despite the quote marks, the material in its current form is presented not as part of a discussion of what interesting sources have to say about the subject. It's presented right in line with our basic information on the subject. As such, it's not appropriate for both improperly sourced boastfulness a copyvio. It's not saying Her about-the-author page on HuffPo says she's "renowned", it's placing that claim as if it's proper information. Opinion quotes should be attributed within the body of the text. --Nat Gertler (talk) 14:18, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Rotary
[edit]Someone with access to Rotary magazines should be able to find a lot more about Ms. Ransom. In an interview on ABC Radio Adelaide a little after 0700 this morning (26 July) she discussed with presenter Ali Clarke her time as an active member of Rotary (including a year as the youngest ever Rotary President, in a club with the lowest average age, etc., etc.), which she remembered with pleasure.
