Relocation
[edit]Hog Back station was relocated from the original location to Hog Back Siding in 1906-7. Citation to come with the pending expansion of the notable historic events of the station. IveGoneAway (talk) 14:25, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Expansion
[edit]Working on a DYK expansion:
- Physical geography == name origin (actually, good farmland)
Conclusion of 1867-8 Indian war- Walt Disney's grandfather started a farm on the location, from which Walt's father moved to Florida
StationSiding moved here to the Thomas Disney farm from Yocemento, KansasCoal mine hoaxUnited States Marshal Neely captured a band of fifty Commonwealers, who had stolen a Union Pacific train near Denver- The Ellis station had no passing siding so that a late west bound Portland Rose (train) was commonly required to stop here if the east bound was occupying the station

- My apologies for not updating this sooner.
- This article has been subject to discussion for deletion for some days.
- I attempted to improve the article a little over the last two weeks. However, I was mistaken about the two main points that I thought applied the Section 18 location. They in fact apply a different location, and I have struck them out.

- That redirect was supposed to be to Ellis, Kansas, right? Not the county? Think the admin who did it skimmed the discussion and made a mistake. Jbt89 (talk) 21:00, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- In my read though of the closing, I actually made the same class of mistake that is suggested. My mind read that the redirect was to the town, not the county. I appreciate your observation.
- It is probably within the closer's perogative to call redirect to the county instead of the town.
- IDK about the appropriateness of asking the closer for clarification. Even if the redirect was to the town, I think a case could be made that since in the history of Ellis County, there were two different Hogback depots in the historical maps, the Ellis County page would echo the distinction and point to the different depots with separate wikilinks to both Ellis and Yocemento. - Not a big deal either way from my perspective - just figured I'd point it out since you've been putting a lot work into adding content about this area so it'd be a shame for the redirect link to lead readers away from that instead of toward it. Jbt89 (talk) 20:07, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- One nut to crack will be getting any mention of Hogback the Ellis County to disambiguate the present map location from the history-making 1800s location that hasn't appeared on maps or county signage for a century. I'll have to take care of several other things first IRL; but over time; as User:James.folsom mentions IIUC, the bar is not high for merging the facts of the 20th century Hogback to the Ellis town's page, updating the multiple disambiguations (cooperating with the closer, first), Yocemento (already covered there but needs the improved citations), and the county page. - There's no reason you can't change the redirect at this point. James.folsom (talk) 23:59, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
