Nationality

[edit]

How could Domenichelli represent Canada and Switzerland? I thought IIHF rules prohibited players representing any country other than the first country they represented 24.84.177.14 (talk) 10:25, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The IIHF allows a player who formerly competed for one nation to compete for another if they become a citizen of the second country and are a resident of that nation, playing in its domestic league for a year. The IOC does not allow an athlete to switch nationalities once they represent a nation at the Games, but since Domenichelli never represented Canada at the Olympics, he was still open to play for Switzerland when he gained his Swiss citizenship.
