Galileo is credited with the first use of the pendulum for timekeeping in 1602
[edit]This is a millenia after the date given in the article for the use of the Mekhert which is backed up by surviving artifacts and archaeology. The Mekhert is also used for surveying purposes to align points on a straight line like a modern transit, and could be used like a seconds pendulum exactly as Galileo used it. Newton also found the pendulum useful in making calculations of the earths gravity. The Egyptian goddess Sekhert appears to be associated with surveying and making measurements of time by "stretching the cord" going back to the Pyramid age.12.187.95.128 (talk) 17:07, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
