Talk:History of the petroleum industry in the United States

I believe this page should be removed. It is almost a caricature of history, and the information on Canada is highly inaccurate -- for example, the suggestion that "billions of barrels" of oil were produced in eastern Ontario. This is nonsense. The relevant material is adequately covered in history of the petroleum industry in Canada. The information on Titusville and Colonel Drake is also well covered elsewhere in Wikipedia. So is Spindletop. Pmbcomm 07:33, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I feel that the deletion would be somewhat extreme. Since History of the petroleum industry in Canada is so comprehensive now, I think that it would make sense to move this article to History of the petroleum industry in the United States and change its contents accordingly (i.e. "nonsense" about Canada disappears). As for dubious claims, they should be marked as such (by taking a pick from Wikipedia:Cleanup resources, of course). GregorB 12:41, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- GregorB is right, the article should be converted to History of the petroleum industry in the United States. Unless any objects, I'll make the change. Plazak (talk) 14:04, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Oil in Kentucky
[edit]The Before the Drake well subsection mentions "a well near Burkesville, Kentucky, in 1828". That date does not appear to be accurate as March 11, 1829, is sourced more than once. See Talk:Burkesville, Kentucky. -- Otr500 (talk) 21:58, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
