The contents of the History of the Swedish Armed Forces other ranks page were merged into Historical ranks of the Swedish Armed Forces on 24 March 2019 and it now redirects there. For the contribution history and old versions of the merged article please see its history. |
Work in progress!: The rationale behind this article is to clean and merge small tiny quite redundant articles such as menig, menig 1cl, vicekorpral, korpral, Furir, and sergeant for convenience and to streamline with other articles about ranks. When this is done, the main article about Swedish ranks should refer to this article and thus work as a detailed page that describes contracted ranks in detail, also including history of each rank. Next step is to do the same for Swedish NCO (Specialistofficere) ranks as well as OF ranks, just as Kudpung explains below. The cleanup is also a result of feedback. Please be patient... I am working on it. --Malin Lindquist (talk) 08:09, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
CSD
[edit]I had already seen this new article and refrained from putting a CSD tag on it, preferring to enter into a dialogue directly with the creator. That dialogue takes place at User talk:Malin Tokyo#Soldier ranks of Sweden and at User talk:Kudpung#Regarding Swedish Soldier Ranks. A possible solution would perhaps be to suggest to the creator that he userfy his content until he is ready for merging.--Kudpung (talk) 06:11, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- I added the CSD. It seems userfying the page makes sense, but unless there's a reason that's not readily apparent, it doesn't seem to warrant it's own article. ialsoagree (talk) 06:17, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Just for the record,A10:
...does not include split pages or any article that expands or reorganizes an existing one or that contains referenced, mergeable material. (When the new title is a reasonable term for the subject, converting the new article to a redirect may be preferable to deletion.)
- Perhaps another CSD would have been apt, but as far as I can see, this A10 might have not been the most appropriate.--Kudpung (talk) 06:47, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

- As I point out on my talk page, it's not readily apparent to me that this article contains information that would be merged into the other. I've specifically asked for such information to be exampled both here, and on Malink Tokyo's talk page. If the CSD doesn't apply, then by all means remove it. I'm not particularly partial to it, I added it because I had no information that suggested it didn't apply (and while I technically still don't, it seems readily apparent that you do). ialsoagree (talk) 06:53, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Opinions may differ, but in my opinion, Soldier ranks of Sweden is a serious work even if it is not perfect, and is quite capable of being either merged into Military ranks of Sweden, or left as a stand-alone as an extention to Military ranks of Sweden, treating specifically the ordinary ranks of the Swedish military. It certainly does not deserve being speedily binned along with all the common and garden vandalism, adverts, and unreferenced BLPs we have to cope with. As far as I know the creator may also be planning on making an Officers of the Swedish Military page too. I commend his dedication to detail on all counts, and if I did not think his work was worth keeping, I wouldn't be cleaning it up and defending it. I've offered him my help with the merge, although I have absolutely nothing whatsoever to with the subject matter.--Kudpung (talk) 07:32, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
NCOs or not?
[edit]These are not NCOs or OFs ranks according to Swedish law (Officersforodningen), which regulates who are NCO and OF. The rank Furir has been replaced (reform: 2009) with Sergeant and Sergeant with First Sergeant. Furir = Sergeant has traditionally been a rank for soldiers with no leadership roles in the cavalry and at most a rank for deputy squad leaders (5-7 men) in other units. With respect to authority and role, the rank seems to compares to, at most, a Lance Corporal in the USMC and the BA. I would therefore not recommend us to describe ranks in this article as NCOs. --Malin Lindquist (talk) 08:38, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Whatever you say - you are the expert. However, I think some fairly accurate translation or comparison of each rank is necessary so that Brits and Americans can get an idea of what is meant. I worked in northenr Europe in NATO for many years and I know how confusing it can be.--Kudpung (talk) 09:03, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV
[edit]I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:
- This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
- There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
- It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
- In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.
- This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:15, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
