The result of the move request was: moved to History of champagne. Consensus is in favour of decapitalising “Champagne”. Best, (closed by non-admin page mover) Reading Beans, Duke of Rivia 21:10, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
History of Champagne → ? – The move requests of 2012 focused on the capitalization of the word Champagne. I do not care whether it is capitalized or not. Like some of the participants in the 2012 discussions, I find the present name inappropriate because it is misleading. Champagne is not just a type of wine. It is, perhaps foremostly, a region; and it is not just a wine region either but a historical province and a former feudal state known for its art and architecture, literature, monasticism, and trade.
A lowercase "History of champagne" would leave no doubt that the subject is history of the wine; but if Champagne must be capitalized, it is only fair to the readers that the title makes it clear that they should not expect to read about the County of Champagne or the Champagne fairs or War of the Succession of Champagne or Bertrand de Bar-sur-Aube. Therefore I propose moving the article, if not to History of champagne, then to History of the Champagne wine region, History of Champagne (wine), or whatever other participants might propose. - support move to History of champagne (lower case) the region is a proper name the wine is not, this should also be reflected in the articles which are wildly inconsistent now—blindlynx 20:51, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Support lowercase, unfortunately, per the n-grams. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:00, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Support move to History of champagne. To me this seems pretty clear, champagne is the wine, Champagne is the region where it is grown. JIP | Talk 12:08, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
