Observation
[edit]The history still has several holes but I'll point out one inaccuracy. The growth of Austin as a high-tech center began in the 1970s when Motorola, IBM, and Texas Instruments opened plants here. The 1990s were arguably when Austin became well-known as a high-tech center but this was long after the business community had become key in the U.S. (it is often the case a place becomes "famous" long after it has become important).

Article Needs Correction
[edit]The last sentence of the second-to-last paragraph of the section Learning to Live with the Colorado River makes no sense. -HankW512 (talk) 01:33, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Merger proposal
[edit]I'm proposing we merge Waterloo, Texas into History of Austin, Texas. Waterloo only appears to have been in existence as a settlement for a few years before incorporation (~1835-1839) and I can't find anything that says it was called Waterloo during that time. While the city was incorporated as Waterloo, it appears to have been renamed almost immediately (possibly within a year in 1839; https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/waterloo-tx-travis-county).
I can't see clearly if Waterloo was unincorporated and Austin was incorporated around the same time (that is, Austin is a separate legal entity) or if the name of Waterloo was changed to Austin (that is, the same legal entity). If Waterloo was a separate legal entity to Austin, that might be an argument to keep them separate but, given the lack of notability for Waterloo itself, I'm not sure even that would be enough. Regardless, I'm struggling to see any meaningful way to expand Waterloo, Texas or any substantive argument for it to remain a separate entry. -- DatraxMada (talk) 14:22, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
