The Played-Out Humorist??

[edit]

The Gilbert & Sullivan Archive's His Excellency page says that the opera is "sometimes" sub-titled "The Played-Out Humorist." At the moment, I can't find any other source for this. It is much better to say where, than to include a vague "sometimes." I'll look again tonight. The original vocal score (which I was looking at last night) has no sub-title. Frequency of Performance

[edit]

The previous edit said:

In recent years, a few performances of this work have been given, some with Carr's score, and some with newly-composed scores.

I am aware of only one full production of His Excellency in living memory, and only one newly-composed score. The comment as written certainly exaggerates the work's popularity. I am not sure that an isolated amateur performance, and an isolated amateur score, are really noteworthy. Marc Shepherd 12:51, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Critical reception

[edit]

We need a critical reception section and a better background section, not to mention in-line referencing. I demoted the article to "C" for now. -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:54, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We now have a critical reception section, but the article needs much more in-line referencing, especially in the background section. -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:27, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
