This article never mentions what church he was with. American Protestant is not a church denomination, its a general designation for a citizen of the United States that is not Catholic. Protestants are not all members of the same church like Catholics and Orthodox Christians are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1011:B113:88AE:B521:CC2F:ED38:773A (talk) 21:14, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Middlebury and Andover

[edit]

There is a Hiram Bingham who attended both Middlebury College and Andover Theological Seminary who is apparently not the subject of this article. This Hiram Bingham was graduated from Middlebury in 1839, according to the Catalogue of the Officers and Alumni of Middlebury College in Middlebury by Thomas Emerson Boyce (p. 87). This person then attended Andover Theological Seminary, and held his pastorate in Windham, Ohio, as this source concurs. Because the timeline of this Hiram Bingham does not match that of the subject of this article, I have reason to believe that the subject of the article may not have attended Middlebury and Andover, and that the subject is a different person sharing the name Hiram Bingham. Can anyone elucidate? -- JeffBillman (talk) 23:41, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the diff, with relevant source, which I used in expanding the article. I'm quite doubtful that I still have the magazine/journal around, but the citation is complete enough that you can go to a good research library (or buy online access to the archives of that source) and confirm. I also confirmed the college & seminary for Hiram Bingham the Hawai'ian missionary, in the biographical article by Stowe, now cited in the article. Pete unseth (talk) 16:13, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Shall I conclude, then, that two individuals with the name "Hiram Bingham" attended both Middlebury and Andover? Or was there only one such person? The reason I ask is simply this: I encountered "Hiram Bingham" while researching Windham, Ohio. If they are one and the same, then I'll add Hiram Bingham to the section of notable residents for Windham, Ohio. -- JeffBillman (talk) 21:54, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My guess is that the Ohio one is a cousin or nephew of this one, since he came from a large family. Feel free to research more and start a Hiram Bingham (Ohio) article for example. W Nowicki (talk) 00:09, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hawaii

[edit]

Also some questions on the Hawaiian history. Do you mean Queen Kaahumanu instead of King Ka'ahumanu? And which ship was it, Thaddeus or Duff? W Nowicki (talk) 00:44, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
