A fact from Hindu dietary law appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 11 December 2008, and was viewed approximately 2,800 times (disclaimer) (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that under Hindu dietary law, a man is not allowed to eat while facing south if his mother is still alive?
The flag suggests that this article be divided, and its length suggests that this is a good idea. However, the structure and organization of the text makes that task a bit difficult. I divided out the discussion of food and the ascetics (defined broadly, I admit), but more could be done. However, it may be necessary or prudent to rewrite the text first.
