I have copied almost all the content for a new article Walking in the United Kingdom. It does not seem practical to globalise this article without recreating Hiking, so I am proposing a redirect to Walking in the United Kingdom. Does anyone object?Mhockey (talk) 12:03, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have no objection. the new article looks good. For the sake of GFDL you should at least make a null edit saying that some material was copied from this article. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 18:08, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, I'd suggest that Hillwalking and Rambling redirect there (as the latter goes to walking now). I'm trying to write a blurb about the 19th century sport Pedestrianism, and the British tradition of hillwalking is a major source of sport. T L Miles (talk) 03:08, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- Agree, the target article looks good and seems to include all the essentials. Any objections? . . dave souza, talk 13:46, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Guides
[edit]I have added a short section on guide books to help newcomers. Further additions welcome. Peterlewis (talk) 18:42, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- I understand why you created the section, the only issue is the lack of references. The most significant was where it said "those written by W A Poucher remain among the most authoratative". I've reworded it to remove issues with neutral point of view, though it still needs a better introduction sentence. --Mrmatiko (talk) 18:59, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- Refs come through cross-refs to other W articles, and are hardly needed for this topic. It is not an area where there are numerous academic or even any articles. Peterlewis (talk) 19:33, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- What about more recent guides? Poucher in particular is very dated. I now rarely hill walk in the UK, but own many Cicerone guide books, mainly for Europe.Rwood128 (talk) 14:10, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Merge with Walking in the United Kingdom
[edit]I suggest that Hillwalking be merged with Walking in the United Kingdom. Is there any logical reason for having two articles like this? Furthermore perhaps a further merge with Hiking is called for? Rwood128 (talk) 14:35, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
The transfer of information is, I believe, complete and there doesn't seem to be any objection to this merger.Rwood128 (talk) 21:08, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
