First-past-the-post constituencies in the electoral area
[edit]Am I right in thinking the electoral area covers the area of a discrete number of first-past-the-post constituencies, namely:
- Argyll and Bute
- Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross,
- Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber,
- Orkney,
- Moray
- Ross, Skye and Inverness West,
- Shetland and
- Western Isles?

Yes. I am right. Laurel Bush 10:30, 11 November 2005 (UTC).
Overlap with Argyll and Bute and with Moray
[edit]Is there some historical reason for the overlap? Does Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber have the same overlap? Laurel Bush 09:56, 8 October 2005 (UTC).
The electoral regions are groups of constituencies, and many constituency boundaries do not coincide with unitary authority local government boundaries. Laurel Bush 10:33, 11 November 2005 (UTC).
Election results
[edit]Additional member results need context in terms of constituency results, which help to determine how additional member seats are allocated. Laurel Bush 10:36, 11 November 2005 (UTC).
Context now provided. Laurel Bush 11:04, 17 November 2005 (UTC).
Proposed merger
[edit]I am trying to figure the proposed merger. Cant see what it might achieve. Highlands and Islands has various meanings, some more or less vague than others. The electoral region, however, is very precisely defined, in terms of area and purpose, and should have its own article, as do each of the other electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament. Might make sense to move Highlands and Islands, as it is now, to Highlands and Islands (Scottish Parliament region), and then to move Highlands and Islands area to Highlands and Islands. Laurel Bush 12:47, 20 February 2006 (UTC).
- Agree with this proposal, 'Highlands and Islands' is the general name, the electoral region is a specific use of this name, so having Highlands and Islands (Scottish Parliament region) is more appropriate. ::Supergolden:: 14:37, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Arran
[edit]Arran seems to be on the regional map but not the constituency map --Henrygb 02:03, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
The regional map is wrong. Arran is in another region. Laurel Bush 13:32, 8 May 2007 (UTC).
