Contradiction with ibdb

[edit]

This article states that the book was written by Abbott and Silvers, but ibdb says that it was written by Longstreet. It gives the novel credit to Longstreet, too. I just put all three names in the infobox, but I'm not sure which is right. If anyone can find a source for Abbott and Silvers (or, conversely, Longstreet), feel free to clear up the discrepancy. —  MusicMaker 03:36, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to Ken Mandelbaum, Longstreet wrote the book (based on his novel), and Abbott revised/rewrote it. He did not mention Phil Silvers in this process. I'll continue to research this tomorrow.JeanColumbia —Preceding unsigned comment added by JeanColumbia (talkcontribs) 02:10, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ethan Mordden writes about the authorship issue. He also states that George Abbott re-wrote, and does state that Phil Silvers did also. I added the Mordden material, but have not included Silvers in the info box as I am still not sure to what extent he gets credit, formal, legal, or otherwise. My guess is that Silvers mostly wrote "gags" for himself, which was often done by comedy stars in musicals. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:18, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
