Schöppenmeister

[edit]

H. Roth was not mayor (as D. Stone asserts), but Schöppenmeister (Schöffenmeister) of Kneiphof: Nuges (1901), Moraw&Press (1991),DuMoulin Eckart (2011), Walter (2008), etc pp. - what Clark (2006) translated as "president of the court of aldermen at Kneiphof". Well, Daniel Stone, a professor of history, has chosen to translate "Schoppenmeister" non-literally as "mayor" for the benefit of English readers and I've followed this practice. The sources you give are all in German. Anyway, to avoid a pointless dispute, how about "Alderman"? VolunteerMarek 18:07, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
