Same as Hezbi Islami
[edit]Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin is not a fundamentalist faction of Hezbi Islami, it's the same party. It has two different names because in 1979, Mohammad Yunus Khalis split from Hekamtyar's group to form his own party also called Hezbi Islami. The two were differentiated as Hezbi Islami (Gulbuddin) and Hezbi Islami(Khalis). The two articles should be merged. Raoulduke47 20:13, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- While not disputing the basic facts in your comment -- that the party forked thirty years ago -- I strongly disagree with your conclusion. No offense, but pleaselook to see how often HIG occurs in the transcripts of the Guantanamo captives versushow infrequently the other faction is mentioned].
- Gulbuddin's faction is mentioned dozens of times. Khalis's, arguably, once. Gulbuddin's is now allied with the Taliban. And, if I am not mistaken, Khalis's with Hamid Karzai. So please explain more fully why a merge would be helpful, rather than confusing?
- You wouldn't merge the articles on the USA and Canada because they were both former British colonies, which shared a common language and some underlying legal forms, would you?
- Cheers! Geo Swan 20:28, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Er.. Maybe I didn't express myself clearly enough. What I mean is that Hezbi Islami and Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin are the same thing. Khalis faction is different obviously. I'm just puzzled as to why there are two articles about the same organisation. Raoulduke47 18:50, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh. Okay. Well, do we know that Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin is the same thing as Hezbi Islami? Most of what I know about the groups is from what I read in the Guantanamo transcripts. Almost all the references are to HIG (spelled a dozen different ways). The relatively few places where Hezbi Islami was used I assumed were due to incompetence. I think we should keep two different articles, until we can clarify whether current references to Hezbi Islami really mean HIG.
- Cheers! Geo Swan 20:23, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
As you will. Hezbi islami has indeed called by many names: Hezb-e-islami, Hezb-i-islami Hekmatyar(HIH), Hezbi islami Gulbuddin(HIG) etc... I have no doubt that all these names indicate the same group, but we can wait for confirmation, if you want. Raoulduke47 22:44, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
revert -- see talk
[edit]I changed the heading back to "Selected..." There was a table -- someone excised it, without explanation. I replaced the table. I think the heading makes sense with the table. Geo Swan (talk) 05:06, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Someone changed the section heading from "Selected explanations of the relation between Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin and Guantanamo captives" to "Accused combatant prisoners at Guantanamo". They didn't offer an explanation for this change. I call for a discussion intended to choose an appropriate heading. Geo Swan (talk) 15:54, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Flag?
[edit]Does anyone have a flag for HIG? One website (http://membres.multimania.fr/jolle/afg5.htm) has a sort of banner that HIG used from 1980-1982, but I cannot verify if either this is real or what HIG's new flag looks like. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.176.201.210 (talk) 00:23, 9 October 2010 (UTC) Update: If a British interview is to be believed, Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin still uses a flag of similar nature.
