Playing/Setting up time

I noticed at the top of the page it says that the setting up takes 10 to 15 minutes and the playing time takes 1 to 2 hours. However, with the variability in how you can play the game, this is incorrect. If you have a lot of terrain tiles and want to use them all, setting up time can take almost an hour and a half. Not only that, but because of the number of different Heroscape army pieces, and infinite number of army possibilities, one can play with armies so small the playing time is really only five minutes, and play with huge armies that may take weeks to defeat. In fact, I'm in the process of playing a heroscape game with my friends that we started playing last week. (We haven't been playing all the time) I think these issues need to be addressed in the article, but I can't see how to fit them in. KjtheDj 4:26, 24 April 2008

Common Heroes

The article states "There are four types of units in the game: Unique Hero, Common Hero, Unique Squad and Common Squad" Is there really such a thing as a "Common Hero" I don't believe any exist and while they could in theory I doubt there every will be. Probably we should change to 3 types of unit - Waza 04:49, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

There are common heroes, I have one. The guard that comes with the road/forest/bridge set is one. Bjsiders 11:50, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
The Swog Rider that comes in the same pack as the knights is another common hero. They are definitely real.
The guard that comes with the forest is a Dumetef guard. To clarify, as of now, there are two types of common heroes; The Dumetef Guard and the Swog Rider. KjtheDj 4:14, 24 April 2008
There are now officially 5 types of units: "Unique Hero, Common Hero, Unique Squad, Common Squad" and Uncommon Hero. The Uncommon Hero functions exactly as a Unique Hero would except that you can draft more than one; you must however keep track of which figure belongs to which card. As a side note, a few things should be pointed out: while all common cards (be them hero or squad) have only 1 life, Unique Hero's as well as Uncommon Hero's usually have more than one life with the exception of Deathwalker 9000, and squads (be them common or unique) always have only 1 life. Wzrd1 9:22, 6 July 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.64.179.89 (talk)
Actually "Uncommon" Heroes are only a part of D&D Heroscape, not the regular core game. So there are still only officially 4 types of figures for Herocsape; 5 for D&D Heroscape. 199.180.166.145 (talk) 15:36, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Spelling

On all official documentation and the website, it is spelled Heroscape, with no intercaps. — Oed 10:42, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Original documentation contradicts this. The 2nd ed Rise of the Valkyre box reads heroScape and the rulebook never once uses the term so this is well up for interpretation depending on what version one might have. The website, while not necessarily being official for the spelling, does spell it in text Heroscape. This question has come up before and players asked at conventions tended to read it as HeroScape, which fits the spelling format. No comment to-date from the designers one way or the other. But based solely on the product itself as presented. The box title is heroScape. Till there is word from the designers this ones up to interpretation and case-by-case basis depending on who is editing what in the product. I'd say either leave it as Heroscape, or change it to HeroScape. Omega2064 (talk) 13:21, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Expansions

There used to be a section in this article on expansions. True they were not very well written but at some point they were deleted and valuable information was lost from the article which needs to be re-added.

Agreed There needs to be a list or table with the expansions listed. I'm working on creating one from scratch now. Speak up if you have one already made. Oed 02:57, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Is it time to move the Heroscape expansions to their own article? The list is getting quite long, and their own article would allow a little more info on each (maybe in a table format) while leaving just a summary (and maybe a list of names) in the main article. - Waza 21:55, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Heroscape.net

I think it'd be helpful to describe exactly what kind of behavior caused heroscape.net to shutdown. It's not clear what is meant by copyright violations. FrozenPurpleCube 02:57, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

The proprietors of Heroscape.net didn't receive a cease and desist, but apparently they thought it was coming. Not having much of a leg to stand on, the site was shut down by the owner. Here are some forum posts about it. Oed 12:46, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, I'm not sure how much of a leg they had to stand on, but from reading the thread, it looks like the problem involved an online store selling branded merchandise, though some people think it was the owner of the site's exhaustion that caused it. At the least, it sounds more like trademark problems than copyright. FrozenPurpleCube 22:42, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Master Set

Should a list of figures from the Master set be added to this section, to match the information available in the Expansions section?

Swarm of the Marro

Should Swarm of the Marro be added to the Master Set list? To read about it check the Heroscapers front page.

Factions in Heroscape

I noticed that there were several articles about factions in Heroscape:

  1. Samurai (Heroscape)
  2. Romans (Heroscape)
  3. Cowboys (Heroscape)
  4. Dreadgul Vikings (Heroscape)
  5. Greeks (Heroscape)
  6. Imperium (Heroscape)
  7. Ninjas (Heroscape)
  8. Gladiators (Heroscape)
  9. Humans (Heroscape)

According to the logic expressed at WP:FICT, the notability guideline for fiction, I suggest that these articles be merged into one article called Races in Heroscape. This article would be like Places in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and would provide more comprehension and less repetition than if the articles were separate. Game guide debate

There appears to be some contention about whether listing supplements and details of the game constitutes turning this entry into a "game guide", which apparently Wikipedia prohibits. First, we need a definition of "game guide" as opposed to a detailed description of a game. There is no such definition provided in the What wikipedia is not page. The entry there simply seems to prohibit "strategy guides", not content listings. Oed 15:42, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the "Generals" section, discussions at Wikiproject Board and Table Games - which I'd recommend to anyone with an interest in such games - have generally held that the game guide guideline, along with copyright concerns, strongly discourage describing game contents and gameplay in detail. I removed the generals section in line with that advice. Regarding the list of supplements, the game guide guideline is perhaps not the best guideline for me to state - but the guideline that Wikipedia is not a directory, and that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collector of information, stongly suggest that a list of the names of expansion packs with no additional information doesn't belong in this article. I apologise if my choice of guideline in the edit summary was poor. Percy Snoodle 15:18, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your clarifications. I think the guideline is hazy at best. Maybe it would be better to break out the generals and supplements listings in a fashion similar to the way, say, Buffy_the_vampire_slayer has its List_of_Buffy_the_Vampire_Slayer_episodes? It seems inconsistent that games should be treated differently than things like television shows or comic books in regard to listing "episodes" (versions, expansions) and "major characters" (units). Oed 17:22, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Su-bak-na is not a dragon.

In the article, it is stated that "Utgar's army consists of Marro and Orcs along with Soulborgs, Undead, two dragons, Mimring and Su-bak-na", however, Su-bak-na is not the dragon, but the Marro riding atop it, as stated in the character's official bio at Hasbro's Heroscape website. --69.252.221.116 (talk) 18:32, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Actually there is not dragon in the Su-Bak-Na figure at all. The Marro is riding a Marro creature, not unlike the Marrden Hounds. This creature merely resembles a dragon like Me-Burq-Sa's creature resembles a horse. --98.229.226.226 (talk) 14:29, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Heroscape transfer to Wizards of the Coast

Ownership of Heroscape was recently transfered from Hasbro to Wizards of the Coast. Some expansion sets such as Aquilla's Alliance and Ticalla Jungle have either been scrapped completely, or modified and released at a later date. This makes the Heroscape entry quite outdated. If anybody wants to take the liberty of fixing that problem it would be good. I often get corrected for style guidelines.

The extensive Q&A with WoTC can be found here.

A new post on heroscapers.com reveals that may have WoTC changed its mind, and the original assortment may be released. The link found here

Do Not Vandalize (talk) 22:42, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I went to that site, and I noticed that in the gallery section, there was a picture of a monk that fought for Aquilla. How did the person upload that picture if no expansion or master sets have Aquilla units yet? If there are then why hasn't it been uploaded on the Heroscape website yet? Lightman2 (talk) 10:52, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
By the way, the game wasn't transfered from Harsbo. Wizards of the Coast is a subsidary of Harsbo. It was transfered from Milton Bradley Company (which is also a subsidary of Harsbo). Lightman2 (talk) 08:36, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
The Aquilla monk figure was an exclusive promotional giveaway figure at GenCon Indy 2007. This character, as well as the other exclusive figures, are not listed on the heroscape.com site but are pictured in the Collector's Guide that accompanies certain Swarm of the Marro master sets. New articles, categories, etc

I know nothing about this game but have come across several articles while stub-sorting, such as Humans (Heroscape) and Werewolves (Heroscape). These articles are in strange categories such as Category:Jandar’s Army, and the category pages are a strange mix of article and category, but don't have any parent categories. In short it all seems a strange muddle and editors interested in Heroscape might like to dive in and try to sort it out. I'll cross-post this to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Board and table games. PamD (talk) 10:00, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

So far as I can see, none of these articles should exist. Sources don't seem to exist and they are entirely in-universe. Most of them have been previously redirected, but The Matrix Prime (talk · contribs) has restored them. He has said he is working on cleaning the articles up and has merged several of them, but unless there's some improvement in the next few days, I suspect they're just going to end up deleted again. This is the very definition of a walled garden- we have a series of images, articles, templates and categories that relate only to each other. J Milburn (talk) 17:58, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Outside forum posts.. not much documentation exists for lots of the material... 69.245.65.89 (talk) 06:34, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
