Jet Lowe
[edit]I've created a biography stub for notable HABS/HAER photographer Jet Lowe. Since Wikipedia and Commons contain many photographs by him, it would be worthwhile to improve the article. (Everyone is including photographer credit on HABS/HAER images they upload, right?) 121a0012 07:14, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Gallery
[edit]I enlarged the squinty little thumbnails, but I don't know how to put them in a grid -- if that's even necessary?? Someone who knows HTML may want to fiddle with this. Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 19:48, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved. As Heritage Documentation Programs is a proper noun, with all words capitalized, it is not necessary to further disambiguate it by adding "U.S." or "National Park Service". Aervanath (talk) 13:13, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
Historic American Buildings Survey → Heritage Documentation Programs – Relisted. Vegaswikian (talk) 05:18, 15 March 2012 (UTC) This article covers three different documentation programs (HABS, HAER, and HALS), yet the article is inaccurately named for only one of the programs, the Historic American Buildings Survey, with redirects from the other two. The proposed move to Heritage Documentation Programs would more accurately reflect the content of the article because HDP oversees all three programs (HABS, HAER, HALS, as well as CRGIS, Cultural Resources Geographic Information Systems, not currently mentioned in the article). The alternative, splitting the article into separate articles for each program, would take a Start-class article and turn it into three stubs, which seems less than ideal. Oppose – unless the article is to be totally rewritten to cover all heritage documentation programmes worldwide? If the scope is to remain confined to one country, it would probably be good to specify that country both in the article title and within the article itself. A possible title might be something like United States heritage documentation programs or Heritage documentation programs in the USA. Could that work? - Heritage Documentation Programs is actually the proper name of the U.S. National Park Service division that administers HABS, HAER, and HALS. This is why I capitalized all three words; see Official website. I'm proposing to rename the page after this division. Perhaps U.S. National Park Service Heritage Documentation Programs? Gallery removal and image use
[edit]I have removed the gallery in accordance with WP:NOTREPOSITORY and WP:Gallery. A gallery does not seem necessary for this article; the same descriptive value can be provided by regular images in the appropriate sections. (Consider creating a gallery on Wikimedia Commons instead.) In accordance with that philosophy, I've moved the extant images of the National Bank and the Rocky Flats control panel into appropriate sections and included drawings from the same surveys, so the images serve as a good illustrations of typical HABS/HAER records. The HALS record for Hale O Pi' Ilani Heiau does not contain any photographs, so I selected a different site. I tried to maintain the selection of subjects from different times and places. However, the page is currently not long enough to justify use of all these images. For the sake of readability, I've commented out the HAER and HALS image templates, but they can conveniently be added back if the sections grow longer. The other images that were in the gallery might be useful when the HABS/HAER/HALS sections have enough content to justify their own page. (Editors from the future, use the former version.)
