[edit]If he's of Portugese descent, why is he on the list of famous Puerto Ricans? 151.204.153.50 21:33, 4 September 2006 (UTC) You can't be this stupid. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.117.169.158 (talk) 16:53, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
The date of birth given in the text and the one given in the box differ! - 89.58.26.3 (talk) 23:30, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well spotted. No evidence for 23 September, so I changed it back to 15. -- JackofOz (talk) 13:22, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm not going to change it because there may be a compilation I'm unaware of, but the article cites information from the "DVD commentary for The Return of Mr. Moto, Mr. Moto Collection - Vol. 2". My version of that set contains only the Peter Lorre movies, and not The Return of Mr. Moto. According to IMdb, Silva's Mr. Moto is not available on video (in the US). --Akahige719 (talk) 06:18, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
No mention made of "Five Savage Men" in which Silva played the lead role. Co-starring Keenan Wynn, Michele Carey 1971 76.121.116.255 (talk) 09:03, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Ski_mohawk 122910
80-film
[edit]Henry Silva starred in a movie, where a groups of youngsters happened to watch when his role carracter killed a man that was his wife's lover. Hence they got in to severe trouble, in an Appalachian forest and in a smaller village. One line from Silva was "We are all up to our ases together in this", when some people from the village hesitated to kill also the youngsters. The local sheriff turned out to be his brother, I think. Anyone that knows the name of this film ? (I watched it on VHS in the early 80's) Boeing720 (talk) 06:47, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Date of birth
[edit]"Henry Silva was born on Sept. 23, 1926, in Brooklyn (not, as most sources have it, in 1928)." - from NYT [1]. Kirill C1 (talk) 09:03, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
- imdb says the date is the 15th. There seems to be some confusion. AMCKen (talk) 19:40, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
- NYT and Washington Post have since run obituaries with Sept 23, and they're definitely the highest quality sources available at the moment. I imagine the confusion in some other sources is carryover from the old Sept 15 1928 date, which NYT refutes in their obit. Nohomersryan (talk) 20:12, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
- Just to add to the confusion, this article [2] states "Silva was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 15, 1926, and raised in Harlem". But, yes, I would assume that NYT and Washington Post are more reliable, especiall compared to IMDB. Kiwipete (talk) 04:06, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- Curiously, I couldn't immediately find him in the NYC Birth Index under any of the various possible birthdates mentioned - at least not under the name "Henry Silva". Nor under his mother's surname of Martinez, which was my next thought. Muzilon (talk) 09:49, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Puerto Rican heritage
[edit]Although he claimed "Sicilian and Spanish" heritage and denied any Puerto Rican ancestry, his parents are both listed as being born in Puerto Rico in U. S. censuses. In the 1940 census, he is 13 and living with his mother Angelina in New York City. Her place of birth is given as "Porto Rico". In the 1930 census, he is listed as "Harry" Silva, his age is given as 3 1/2, and is living with his mother in NYC. Her name is given as "Angela" Silva and her place of birth is listed as "Porto Rico". The place of birth for both Henry's father and mother is given as "Porto Rico".

- @EricWR: - Hi, I'd like to continue this discussion as the subject is now deceased and I know that using official/government records is usually stated against for BLPs.
- I have heard that his parents were apparently from Puerto Rico, and there are sources that mention him at least being of partial Puerto Rican ancestry.[3] He was among the names mentioned on a book about the celebration of Latinos in Hollywood. Not sure why he would deny his Latin heritage, but perhaps it was because of the era he grew up in. Where being of perceived non-European (especially Anglo-Saxon) origin was not seen as a "positive" thing. I'm curious to see if anyone else has sources that can further this discussion. But that is just my speculation. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 02:35, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Mr. Henry Silva is pure Puerto Rican ok. He was being interviewed in a Spanish Television Show on Univison years ago and he said
- " I'm Pure Puerto Rican my parents were both born in Puerto Rico.
- You see Folks there are people out there that are hiding thier lineage because they just want to lean with other ethnic group because of shame or for money and fame. Example Wo Fat of Hawaii Five 0 was of Egyptian & Sudanese
