I'd removed the Solicitor General story, because article didn't mention it (1st), described person was dead since 10 years before stepping into office of an Solicitor General (2nd), so he could only act as a ghost of the Solicitor General :-)) . The right person could be found here. --Ebcdic.de (talk) 20:16, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi questions on Protectionist Henry Hoyt

[edit]

I have no problem if you are saying the piece is not up to par, but people should know Henry Hoyt is a protectionist. You are telling me I should write the piece so it can fit into Encyclopedia standards right? What are you actually saying? I am a novice at this , do you have any recommendations? I am going to have an editor look over it. ````Curtiss Smith — Preceding unsigned comment added by CurtissSmith (talkcontribs) 19:12, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Curtiss, there's two sets of issues here. First, definitely read WP:OR and Wikipedia:Verifiability, which will explain the sorts of sources you should be looking for when editing articles - you shouldn't be aiming to interpret Hoyt's work yourself, but rather cite reliable secondary sources who have analysed his writing. The second area is general style; I'd advise checking over how you're using capitalisation (e.g. "Hoyt Refutes Profressor (sic) Arthur Perry’s cover up" - "Refutes" doesn't need a capital letter) for example, and how you're forming up sentences (e.g. "His chapter on Adam Smith -Some facts in our history quotes Adam Smith stating that home market is diminished when there are fewer manufacturers and artificers and by promoting domestic commerce domestic industry is encouraged to a higher degree and that pursuits in foreign trade over domestic commerce is less beneficial to the nations." - there's a missing "-"; "home market" needs an article; you're stringing a very long sentence together with no commas or other breaks; it is unclear what a "pursuit in foreign trade" is; "pursuits" is plural, so you need "are less beneficial" etc.) There are a variety of writing guides out there on the web which would be worth reading through. Hi, thanks for the response. I need to be more careful with the grammar. I do have a question though..You will not find sources of people citing Henry Hoyt. The unknown protectionists which I can name at least 15 do not have encyclopedia entries. They don't even have biographies about them. All you have to work with are the books they write. They do not have reliable secondary sources. Economics is in a dark age. Good economist are not written about only hideous free traders are. You will find out about nearly every American Free Trader there is, but a protectionist in England or America good luck. Chances are the page has been done by a bread fed scholar, or even worse a free trader that is covering up true history. Protectionists are not covered properly. I would love to read biographies of George B Curtiss, John Philip Young, David Hall Rice, George Basil Dixwell, Edwin Hartshorn,VanBuren Denslow John Hecht, William Elder, Cyrus elder, and Giles Stebbins to name a few, but they do not exist. thanks for all your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CurtissSmith (talkcontribs) 13:54, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
