Helen Shapiro - a class act. Happy Birthday for the 28th.

The sentence about her messianic conversion certainly lacks NPOV

What is NPOV? (62.64.200.194 (talk) 19:51, 31 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

The link to her husband, John Judd, is wrong. It goes to a maker of diesel engines of the same name. Engelsepiet (talk) 18:43, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, so I have removed the link.
Derek R Bullamore (talk) 18:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The link to the wrong John Judd is there again. There is still no article for Shapiro's husband, only the engineer. So I have removed it and made a comment on the talk page for John Judd the engineer. There probably should be a disambiguation entry, but I don't know how it should be done because there's only one Judd article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.177.60.154 (talk) 08:39, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Her evangelical career

[edit]

Ms, Shapiro's biography currently omits what she has been doing for the past quarter-century. Since 1987, she has been working as a gospel singer and evangelist after deciding that Jesus was in fact the Messiah. She didn't actually convert to Christianity: she considers herself a messianic Jew. The only source I have found for this is the autobiography on her own web site, but she clearly is almost as famous for her current religious ministry as for her career 50 years ago as a pre-Beatles British pop star. Before I add a brief mention in the article, I thought I should post something here to see if anyone can fill me on the history of why such a big part of her life is missing? Sorry -- Messianic Jews not allowed on Wikipedia. I'm sure you understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.69.209.76 (talk) 15:31, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Brits that sing with American accents

[edit]

Is there a word for this type of vocalizing. It's pretty clear that many people including Helen Shapiro sing without their native UK accents. Just another piece of information that would give shade to her style of singing. 125.25.19.23 (talk) 06:08, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There doesn't appear to be one, but this offers an explanation as to why singers do it. This question is really for WP:REFDESK so you may find someone who can better answer your query there. This is Paul (talk) 22:26, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We would also need a source that explicitly states that she sang with an American accent. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:29, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, my recollection is that after her career began to fade she went to America to be 'improved' - and after she came back her style was a completely different brash American one. This isn't covered in the articleWolstan Dixie (talk) 10:06, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

School

[edit]

Did Helen Shapiro really go to a comprehensive school? The Wikipedia page on comprehensives in England and Wales says there were a few early ones after WWII, but they didn't really get going until after HS would have left school. Snugglepuss (talk) 16:25, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
