"Team winners"
[edit]They do not belong on this page. Every year, one player "wins" per team, or is nominated per team, for the real award. This year's source calls them "preliminary winners". They are not all winners of the award. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:01, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
- The MLBPA page on the award lists the winners of the individual team votes as nominees. The page uses the phrase "team winners", but it's in the context of describing the process, so it's just a convenient short hand for "winners of the nominee voting for each team". The bigger question is, regardless of the label used for them, should the team nominees be listed? isaacl (talk) 18:29, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- If that information is going to remain, it should be re-labeled as "team nominees" and in my opinion re-organized by team rather than year. Spanneraol (talk) 18:30, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- As one point of reference, the Roberto Clemente Award article doesn't list the team nominees... The problem of course is that listing all the nominees would swamp the article. The individual season articles might be a better place to list them, but I'm leaning towards saying they can be omitted. (On a side note, I think organizing them by year rather than team is preferable, unless we have a spinout article "Team X nominees for Y award" or the information is included in the team article.) isaacl (talk) 18:38, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, and thank you all for your contributions to the page. MLBPAA Wiki account here to clarify a couple of things: It is in fact accurate to refer to the 30 team nominees as the "Team Winners" as these are considered awards, not nominations. Each "Team Winner" receives a plaque during a ceremony at their home stadium. We would like the "Team Nominees" to be listed on the wiki page, as they are an integral part of the history of the award. Furthermore, we would like them to remain organized by year, not team, as that is how we organize them on our website. Thank you all for your contributions to the page and for monitoring this, but we can confirm that we would like all of the team winners listed. This was a project that we have been working on, and while we understand that it makes the article quite large, we feel it is important for all "Team Winners" to be chronicled. Thank you. - Well, your website refers to them as nominees and not winners.. so we should probably follow that standard and if we keep it organized in this manner, we should make the table sortable so that if someone wanted to know who all the Braves nominees were it would be easy to search. Spanneraol (talk) 18:54, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- That is true, though we also use the terminology "the 30 team winners" on that page as well. The 30 team winners are nominees for the overall award, but they are also winners of their team awards. As an example, with the Roberto Clemente Award, there are nominees, but there is also an award presentation for each team nominee. Therefore, they "won" their team's Roberto Clemente Award. Similarly, these 30 team winners have "won" their team's Heart and Hustle Award. We feel that titling the table "nominees" would minimize the accomplishments of the "Team Winners". As for sorting by team, we agree that would be a good function. We are not experts in Wikipedia coding, so if you wanted to make that update, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all again for your dedication to the accuracy of the page. MLBPAA (talk) 19:04, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
- Just saw the updates, thank you for doing that. In the future if we have information to add to the page, we will be sure to come to the Talk page to discuss. We appreciate your skills and knowledge and the desire of all of you to keep the page accurate and up to date, thanks again. MLBPAA (talk) 19:19, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Things had been quiet here since November, but the editor (probably the same person) just came back to reinsert the contentious material. Since I'm now an admin, I've locked the page to encourage more discussion on this and prevent future edit warring. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:54, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- Hi! I'm a representative of the MLBPAA and when trying to update the Heart and Hustle page noticed that the page was semi-protected. Is there a way that we can get this taken off so we can make the appropriate updates to the page since it is currently outdated?

[edit]Add a footnote to the table indicating that no award was given in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This was readers of the page know that there was a reason for the omission, and it's not simply because the table is incomplete.
