Incorrect statement?

[edit]

I wonder if the last sentence in the article really refers to the healing of the deaf mute.

Commentator of Mark, Lamar Williamson, writes that this is the last unit in a series of miracles concerned with the identity of Jesus, as earlier confirmed by Apostle Peter's christological affirmation in Mark 8:29 where Peter exclaimed: "You are the Messiah". (Ref.: Lamar Williamson 1983 Mark ISBN 0-8042-3121-4 pages 138-140)

The problem is that Peter's confession to Jesus as the Messiah (Mark 8:29) follows both miracles, the healing of the deaf muted (Mark 7:31-37) and the healing of the blind man (Mark 8:22-26). This could be resolved by rewording the sentence: "... a series of miracles concerned with the identity of Jesus, as later confirmed by Apostle Peter's christological affirmation in Mark 8:29 ..." However, a correction like that would not solve the logical mistake in the statement, as the healing of the deaf mute cannot be "the last unit in a series of miracles concerned with the identity of Jesus" as it is followed by yet another miracle, i. e. the healing of the blind man, which has to be counted as the last unit in the series of miracles before the confession of Peter.

Possibly, Williamson's statement really referred to the healing of the blind man (Mark 8:22-26) and was inserted here by mistake. Unfortunately, I have no access to Williamson's commentary, so I can't confirm my musings. – Puzzled, ChoG (talk) 13:22, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
