Fair use rationale for Image:HawklordsLive.jpg

[edit]

Image:HawklordsLive.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:38, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"New" Hawklords

[edit]

I understand that Nik Turner and friends are now operating as "Hawklords". If that's so can we have some info on it in this article please? --kingboyk (talk) 17:59, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't it covered in the reformation section? It doesn't explicitly mention Turner, but it does mention the three HL musicians + other ex-HW members. — Drwhawkfan (talk) 07:56, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is. Whoops. Sorry about that! --kingboyk (talk) 10:04, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can remember reading an interview in - I think - New Musical Express, with one of the Hawklords members. From memory I think it was Simon King, but memory may be failing me. But the point was that he was very specific in saying that "Hawklords" was very much a Calvert/Brock project with no artistic contribution from the rest of the band. The statement was that they were all employed as session musicians for the one project. If so then arguably the "new" Hawlords could be on dodgy legal ground using the name.... Olddemdike (talk) 17:18, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps Brock can't remember that, or doesn't care. The Hawklords name had been in use previously. -- Beardo (talk) 03:28, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lancaster Uni gig

[edit]

I attended the gig at Lancaster Uni and some of the comments on the page don't gel with what we saw

1) The whole of "25 Years On" was played in its entirety, including "Flying Doctors" (Calvert donned flight helmet, aviators goggles and pilots jacket)

2) They followed up with four or five Hawkwind songs - the ones I remember are "Sonic Attck", "Urban Guerilla" and "Silver Machine" (as encore) edit - they must have played "Robot" as I have a memory of Calvert in his robot suit - a costume covered in tens of thousands of differently coloured monofilament lights, and that was the only time | saw Calvert wit them

3) There were two or three dancers on stage - dressed in khaki-grey trench coats / uniforms. So they weren't cut out completely

4) There were fake watchtowers built on the upper balcony from the hall, holding searhlights and lasers (so these were NOT dropped from the show)

5) we were told before the gig (I was a bouncer there) that it was being filmed and there were two cameras present on the balcony. So maybe theres a film around somewhere

6) the concert was badly received. While the "25 Years On" part of the event was absolutely stunning visually and sound-wise, it was so different from what was expected of Hawkwind that no-one knew what to make of it. Applause was very limited, Worse was to come: when they played the older Hawkwind material the band very much gave the impression of just "going through the numbers" and were actually booed after playing "Silver Machine"

7) Its worth remembering / restating what the show was supposed to be about: it was claimed (both onstage by Calvert, and in the music press) to represent Britain after 25 years of a "fascist" Conservative government. Thatcherite economics were on the way, and it was inevitable the the tories would be elected soon. Olddemdike (talk) 16:37, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should we split this page?

[edit]

The current Hawklords is really nothing to do with the 1979 Hawklords version of Hawkwind. I wonder if it would be clearer to start a new page for the current Hawklords and just provide a brief note and link from this one. Renniej (talk) 10:54, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, because right now this page is a mess and confusing. I see you have a new article waiting. It looks good to me so I'm going to take that article live. kingboyk (talk) 18:28, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Green tickY A reasonably complete infobox, including cover art
  • Green tickY At least one section of prose (in addition to the lead section)
  • Green tickY A track listing containing track lengths and authors for all songs
