Relationship with Guy Aldred

[edit]

Any supporting evidence for the claim that Bedford "largely financed" the Strickland Press? The Strickland Press was set up with a bequest from Sir Walter Strickland and was run by the USM group around Guy Aldred. Aldred published some material by Bedford on pacifism and economic reform and Bedford also wrote an ocassional column for Aldred's paper The Word until his death. Aldred's rationale for publishing Bedford came down to the issue of free speech...Aldred was a lifelong follower of Richard Carlile; so much so that, despite being an active anti-fascist, he published a pamphlet in 1943 highlighting the cause of British fascists interned under Regulation 18B. -- Steelwool (talk) 23:39, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
