Note that notability is not inherited. If Ms. McDougal is not notable in her own right, this article should probably be merged into the one on Robert Jordan. Robofish (talk) 01:35, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- I think that any Jordan fan knows who Ms. McDougal is and respects her role in the production and inspiration of The Wheel of Time. That being said, I think her notability is really only in connection with her husband. I'd support merging this into the Robert Jordan article. Nitack (talk) 16:14, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Harriet is very notable in her own right, though you wouldn't know it by reading this article. I will write a better one, but I'm going to write it from scratch, if that's okay. She was a very important figure in publishing for many years before she met Jordan, including being the editing director for Ace Books. I have several interviews to draw from, but it might take a little bit to finish the page, because Jordan and Harriet were in general very private, so I have to piece together what we know about her from all those interviews. A little here, a little there. Terez27 (talk) 11:07, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- It's worth noting Harriet's role in getting Glen Cook's BLACK COMPANY books to the shelf as well, given those books' impact on later fantasy authors (like Martin and Erikson). I'm not sure if either have spoken about it at length in interviews, but apparently Tor weren't going to publish the books and Cook had to convince his editor (presumably Harriet) at a convention to go with the book. Between WoT, Ender's Game and the Black Comany, that's at least three major (best-selling and/or influential) SFF book series she's worked on. The key will be finding really good sources.--Werthead (talk) 20:31, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, as you know, sources are my specialty. :D (PS, I would still love to have that SFX interview!) Terez27 (talk) 21:36, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Updates needed
[edit]The paragraph under the Brandon Sanderson section at the end of this entry, the one starting with "Since Jordan's death..." needs to be updated to reflect that the encyclopedia mentioned has, indeed, been published. Additionally, since The Wheel of Time series now exists as a TV show on Amazon Prime TV, with Harriet McDougal serving as Consulting Producer. I am disabled and wish I could make these changes myself, but it is difficult for me to type for extended periods of time due to energy and muscle weakness, and I have forgotten how to do proper Wiki formatting.

- Good suggestions. I edited the Wheel of Time section to add them. Stevewonderbelt (talk) 15:58, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
