Already in
[edit]This information is already in Marilyn Monroe, isn't it?
- No, it just mentions she sang. Staxringold 18:11, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Deleted one of the references, as it no longer exists (dead link). SausMeester, 9:01, 13 february 2006.
Grammar Nazi here, the format of 'substituting *original*' should be followed by the preposition 'with' *not* 'for'. Example: 'substituting Mr. President with Mr. fill-in-the-blank.' Reverse the order of presentation and you can use 'for'. Example: 'substituting Mr. fill-in-the-blank for Mr. President.' That is all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.6.92.68 (talk) 05:55, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Happy Birthday lyrics – possible copyright infringement?
[edit]Isn't publishing the lyrics of Happy Birthday in the article a copyright infringement?
It is notable to remark that Wikipedia's Happy Birthday to You article does not contain the lyrics of this song for this reason (or perhaps to subtlely point out the absurdity of copyright as it is today) Instead it notes:
- The lyrics to "Happy Birthday to You" can be found on the purported copyright owner's website.[1]
I think this article should do the same. — Adhemar 21:25, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Stop the World - I Want to Get Off "Happy Birthday"
[edit]MM sang "Happy B'day Mr President" in public on Saturday, May 19, 1962. I was listening to an "Original Cast Recording" of Stop the World – I Want to Get Off. In the song "Typsche Deutsche", Ilse sings "Happy Birthday Dear Adolf" in a very sexy voice, with a cute MM-like "ooh!", that made me think that she was imitating MM's famous performance. However, SWIWGO premiered in July, 1961, almost a year before MM sang her version.
Did the original sexy "Happy Birthday (Mr. President / Dear Adolf)" begin with SWIWGO in 1961 or did the Ilse character start to change the performance AFTER MM's rendition? Does anyone know if MM attended SWIWGO or heard it anyplace and whether it influenced HER performance? AdderUser (talk) 07:48, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
- Why is the point? Does it really matter? Monroe may or may not have originated the sultry singing of "Happy Birthday?' What matters is Monroe sang it and it still matters. Spenser - The Unknown (talk) 21:07, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Televised?
[edit]There are a number of allusions to a television broadcast of this event on the periphery of this article, but no mention in the article itself. I'd write something, but don't know the facts. --74.96.8.26 (talk) 15:45, 19 May 2012 (UTC) dr
History
[edit]I know I shouldn't do it here, but I just love the first sentence: "more than 15,000 people attended along with numerous celebrities." In other words "celebrities" are not "people"! Too true! Baska436 (talk) 11:11, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Drunk
[edit]All you have to do is watch the video and you know she was visibly drunk while singing this. PumpkinSky talk 01:26, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
She was not "Drunk". She was on a "Downer" because she was terrified of getting up in front of MSG. Such was and is within the "Public Domain". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spenser - The Unknown (talk • contribs) 21:09, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Relationship with Kennedy
[edit]Mention should be made that Kennedy was not just "the President" to Monroe, but also a secret lover. It is pertinent because it makes the sultriness something more than just an act. The existence of the relationship is supported with references in the Marilyn Monroe article.Jmchutchinson (talk) 12:12, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
Nothing worn underneath?
[edit]Just researching this dress and the source for the claim that she wore nothing underneath doesn't actually say that so the citation needs improvement or the claim removed 213.18.163.178 (talk) 04:15, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- She was sewn into the dress; obviously, she had to be naked for that to have been possible. The Rhinestones were "Strategically" placed to cover any possibility of either her breasts or genitals to be obvious. Look at her shape; It is without any visible fat.
