[edit]I tend to think that Hans should be an article in its own right. When two names diverge and become identified as seperate, as John and Hans have in English, it seems unnecessary to group them into one article because of their origin. --TeaDrinker 20:36, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- I agree here, Hans has certainly developed, and although these two names may share the same origins, they are both established names in German and English speaking cultures. Keep them separate. - HammerHeadHuman (talk)(work) 16:48, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Hans is also an Indian / Hindi name?
[edit]I have heard that "Hans" is also an Indian / Hindi name, meaning both Swan and Soul. I first heard this in India, from an Indian woman who claimed her brothers name was Hans Raj, meaning King of Swans. On a separate occasion someone (not Indian) told me that the name "Hans" in India also signifies Soul. Obviously the fact that the European spelling of the Indian name "Hans" coincides with the European name Hans is just that: coincidence.
Sources I found verifying part of this information is this: http://www.iloveindia.com/babynames/boy-h.html and http://www.indianhindunames.com/indian-hindu-boy-name-h.htm
Also there appears to be a Punjabi singer named Hansraj Hans: http://bollywood-songs.org/hansraj-hans-songs/
Are there any more?
Should I include this information in the "Hans" article?

Hänschen
[edit]the ending "-chen" can be used on nearly everything (example: häs"-chen" - normally "hase", engl. rabbit, in the cute form also used for plural) and any name (example: marie"-chen") to make it cute, it's not a "form" of the name for itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.240.43.164 (talk) 03:56, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Pronounciation
[edit]I don’t know about the other languages, but in German, “Hans” is most definitely not pronounced with a long a. For a native speaker, pronouncing it like hawns sounds really strange. Rgds ✦ hugarheimur 22:48, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Hans is not a germanic name.
[edit]Names like Erik or Friedrich are germanic names. Names that have germanic language origins. Hans is a version of the hebrew name Johannes. 178.24.238.93 (talk) 12:12, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
