Discography

[edit]

The discography seems very incomplete. A better resource might be http://www.allmusic.com/artist/hank-jones-mn0000558339 -- I'll make additions when I have time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.150.10.201 (talk) 21:31, 11 January 2013 (UTC) The Bob Stewart mentioned in the discography for "It's the Talk of the Town" is not the one whom is linked to.jmcargal 05:34, 7 March 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmcargal (talkcontribs) [reply]

African Colaboration

[edit]

I was missing the very inspiring album "sarala" released under the names "Hank Jones & Cheik Tidiane Seck and the Mandinkas" in 1995. Is there a special reason for not mentioning it? Matthias77.186.194.136 (talk) 18:42, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hank Jones and Henry Jones

[edit]

@JesseRafe: regarding your reversion of my reversion of your removal of the hypocorism "Hank" from the first sentence of the article Hank Jones: "Hypocorisms" like this have a special place in the world of jazz music. An enormous number of jazz musicians are known by their nicknames. Using their birth names would in many cases draw from most jazz fans only puzzlement and blank stares. What has happened here is that the simple removal of this nickname has resulted in the absurdity that nowhere in the article's lead paragraphs is the name "Hank Jones" mentioned at all. But the name "Hank Jones" is inextricably entwined with Jones's notability. There is no getting around that.

That said, I have gone back to the Manual of Style and pondered this some more. True, the Manual of Style supports the removal of the nickname from its original place in the opening sentence, as you have asserted. But it also states: "The lead sentence should describe the person as he or she is commonly described in reliable sources." Reliable sources about Hank Jones always name him "Hank Jones". Only sources focusing on biography would even mention the name "Henry Jones Jr."

With all this in mind, MOS:QUOTENAME provides a way out of this intolerable situation, with some good examples, such as the one for Tim Allen. So I will modify the lead slightly to conform to that style. --Alan W (talk) 04:12, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hank Jones discography

[edit]

Support split - Discography section takes up more than one quarter of the page, and should be split to a new article entitled Hank Jones discography. Thoughts? --Jax 0677 (talk) 21:05, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A reasonable idea with no disagreement after 212 weeks. I will create the discography article. Philip Cross (talk) 17:16, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
