This article says he won the Faulkner award in 1973. That is impossible. The William Faulkner Foundation was dissolved in 1970, no awards were given after 1970. The heir to it, the PEN/Faulkner Award, was not established until 1980. I did some searching and the only reliable source that makes the claim is the The Concise Oxford Companion to African American Literature (seen on Google Books) which says "He received the PEN/Faulkner Award in 1973". Again, impossible. It's evident this source is just factually wrong. Like saying George Washington won the Nobel Peace Prize. Further, a search of the NYT archive shows nothing to support it, which would be unusual if they did not report on it at the time. If we can find a contemporary source, great, but it seems impossible since there was no Faulkner foundation in existence in 1973. -- Green Cardamom (talk) 16:14, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
