pointless trivia

[edit]

Does the section "On the ground" really need all of these silly little trivial facts? Is this good encyclopedic material? Does it really serve a purpose on wikipedia? I'm talking about:

  • They found the Chinese food unpalatable as it included fish heads, but this later improved.
  • Guards gave them decks of cards and an English-language newspaper.
  • To pass the time and keep spirits up, Lts. Honeck and Vignery worked up humorous routines based on the television shows The People's Court, Saturday Night Live and The Crocodile Hunter.
  • They gradually developed good relations with their guards, with one guard inquiring of them the lyrics for the song "Hotel California" by the Eagles.

Does anyone agree or disagree with trimming this section? Charles35 (talk) 05:26, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I believe some of it could be reworded, but I also believe all of this information should stay in the article, because it provides detail related to their captivity.Juneau Mike (talk) 17:22, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Aftermath

[edit]

Isn't EP-3 #156511 flying again? This seems relevant to this aircraft and incident. Is this just omitted due to the Chinese POV of the article?

@Iowajason:Whether flying or not, I do not see any Chinese POV but US's egocentric style of information telling. -宋世怡 (talk) 17:34, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Iowajason, indeed it is! It was actually in the air less than 3 hours ago, according to radarbox: https://www.radarbox.com/data/registration/156511 Olystretch (talk) 01:46, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
