Camera

[edit]

I think it would be very necessary to include in the information that the Diamond HTC don't came with any kind of flash, or power led on the camera. Myself have been searching for smart phone models and this information is seldom included, wich by the way I don't understand, as I would guess many other users would like to know if they will be abe to take photos on nights, inside pubs, etc, before spending U$900... Sully76 (talk) 16:06, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Really, the problem here is that the articles for phones with a flash fail to specify that they have a flash - it shouldn't be necessary to explicitly list the features a phone doesn't have, in an encyclopedia. You may find PDAdb.net useful. Dark-Fire (talk) 15:39, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Memory Use

[edit]

Also, I thin it would be great if someone explains the memory distribution with the OS. For example: Is it possible to use the G$B for "my documents", or it is restricted to only the 256MB (Which IMHO it would be so silly, but experience was tell us that this could happen, as on HTC Touch) Sully76 (talk) 16:13, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Information like that os OS-related and should go on the Windows Mobile article. There should be a "My Documents" folder on your (4GB) internal storage, which you can use with any application. I think the camera application may even use the "My Pictures" and "My Videos" folders in "My Documents" on the internal storage by default. There are several very good forums where you can ask questions like that in the future - this is an encyclopedia, not a forum. Dark-Fire (talk) 15:36, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Competition

[edit]

I think that section should be explained that the release dates of 3G Iphone and HTC Touch Diamond aren't exact. forgot to sign here you go. MikelZap (talk) 18:38, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That would depend on how unexact they are. Is there any official release date for the 3G iPhone yet? Also, it should be noted that the release date of the HTC Touch Diamond in some countries has been rather messed up by grey imports. [1] Dark-Fire (talk) 11:16, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why do iphone fanboys like Dark-Fire, always say the HTC Touch Diamond is similiar to the iphone?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.130.229.126 (talk) 04:41, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is similar - there's no denying that. There's also no denying that HTC see the Diamond as a major iPhone competitor (watch their press conferences). You might want to check out my blog for my biased opinion. (I try to keep my contributions here unbiased). I could not be further from being an 'iphone fanboy'. I got told off on Wikipedia last year, for trying to call the HTC Touch an 'iPhone killer'. Dark-Fire (talk) 17:54, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Verizon??

[edit]

where does the info that this might be released on verizon wireless in the U.S come from? Don't get my hopes up.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.111.149.218 (talk) 16:16, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was wary of that edit, since it took the HTC Touch so long to become available on Verizon, but I have a source which I'll add to the article in a moment. It looks like HTC really do want to take advantage of Apple's mistakes - they're releasing the device on all networks possible (all 5 major networks in the UK for example), as well as releasing a HTC-branded version. (The next step would be to lengthen the list of countries the device is available in - I can't believe that HTC are ignoring rich and technologically advanced countries like Ireland). Dark-Fire (talk) 22:21, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
indeed. So the verizon version is a WCDMA? i just saw a video of a Touch Diamond that had received messages from verizon wireless... so im supposing the announcement is coming. It'll give them something to compete with on the whole ZOMG IPHONE platform with AT&T. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.111.149.218 (talk) 00:14, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Model differences

[edit]

I think it would be a great improvement if the article explained the difference between models P3700, P3701 and P3702. Is anyone aware of the spec differences? The Seventh Taylor (talk) 21:46, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

only thing i know is that the CDMA version has no front facing camara :( —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.111.146.99 (talk) 00:16, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
GSM Arena's overview suggests the HTC-branded version is the P3700 while the T-Mobile MDA Compact IV version is the P3702. That would make me guess the O2 XDA Diamond is the P3701 but the table indicates otherwise. According to this review the T-Mobile model has 128 instead of 192 MB RAM and is more lightweight. The Seventh Taylor (talk) 22:03, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can probably find all of that information on PDADB.net. The differences may be remarked upon, but I don't think they need to be explained in great detail or listed - there are also a large number of slight variations of the HTC Touch. I think that article is a good model for this one. Only the significantly different CDMA version got a section explaining those differences. The enhanced touch is briefly mentioned, and all other variations are effectively ignored because they have insignificant differences (for example, I think the T-Mobile version lacked wifi). Don't forget that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - it's not a phone specification database! Dark-Fire (talk) 23:43, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Thanks for the great link. The Seventh Taylor (talk) 12:01, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

XDA brand: wrong name?

[edit]

The article lists O2's alternative name as the "XDA Diamond", however an O2 UK customer services rep told me yesterday that their name for it will be the XDA Ignito, something that's backed up by the fact that O2 are already selling accessories for the Ignito in their shop: http://shop.o2.co.uk/accessory/O2_XDA_Ignito_Battery I can't find any official source confirming this so is it better to hold off on changing the article? If so, could people keep an eye out and be ready to update the name in the article whenever official confirmation is given in case I forget? 62.189.108.220 (talk) 09:53, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I realise now that the XDA Diamond is the name for the HTC Diamond in Germany where it's already been released. If it is indeed released in the UK as the XDA Ignito, should the name in this article be updated or left as is? I would expect that the UK name should be used here, with the German name used in the relevant article in the German language Wiki site, but I don't know if that's how things really work around here? 62.189.108.220 (talk) 10:03, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know that O2 were giving it a random name in the UK - thanks for pointing that out. I think both names should be mentioned though, just to clarify the fact that O2 is selling the same device in different countries under different names (probably to fool people into thinking that the Ignito is not the Diamond that every other network in the UK has). Actually, I think both names should be mentioned for quite a few reasons. I'll put in the Ignito name and a source into the article in a moment. Dark-Fire (talk) 22:57, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Similarities

[edit]

I reverted the edits that changed the competition section into a similarities section because the only device listed was the SE XPERIA X1. The only similarities given were the fact that they were both made by HTC and both run WM 6.1. That is not notable at all - it's about as notable as the fact that two computers made by the same company both run Windows Vista. The competition section is notable as it shows the factors that have influenced the design and release date of the Touch Diamond, and demonstrates the technological convergence going on in the industry at the moment. Can wikipedia be edited on it

[edit]

Hello, sorry, I'm not sure how relevant this is to the article, but I would like to know if Wikipedia can be edited using the HTC diamond. THX. --HappyInGeneral (talk) 12:38, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Or for that matter is there an article where there is a list of mobile gadgets by which wikipedia can be edited? I just tested with an older version of HTC from my colleague who told me that he installed the latest opera on it, but the edit window did not re-size to the screen, so I think it would be very hard to edit like that. Thank you again --HappyInGeneral (talk) 12:38, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For related info see here: Wikipedia:Village_pump_(miscellaneous)#List_of_phones_that_can_be_used_to_edit_Wikipedia --HappyInGeneral (talk) 14:09, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, it can edit Wikipedia (I'm writing this on my Touch Diamond). There is a technique to doing it efficiently though. Your colleague is right - Opera 9.5 will reflow text, but won't reflow or resize the edit box or the text in it (I suppose it's unusual to have an edit box of this size). The VGA screen, though, does help to keep a lot visible, and the landscape mode makes things easier too. Dark-Fire (talk) 18:36, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your answer :), Do you have HTC Diamon Touch, or just with the on the screen keyboard? --HappyInGeneral (talk) 05:43, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Erm...Your question isn't very clear. Yes, I have a HTC Touch Diamond and yes, I did use the on-screen keyboard on the HTC Touch Diamond (it has no physical keyboard, so there's not much choice). Specifically, I used the included 'Full QWERTY' keyboard, and the included Opera browser. Dark-Fire (talk) 18:49, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, let me clear that out, I was referring to HTC Herman [2] which has an integrated keyboard. And I was asking this because I imagined if you use the onscreen keyboard then there remains less visible space. But now I get it, it's usable like that too :). Thank you! --HappyInGeneral (talk) 19:04, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. Just for the record, the HTC Herman is a variant of the HTC Touch Pro. Dark-Fire (talk) 19:54, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikipedia article for the HTC Touch Pro is here. Dark-Fire (talk) 19:57, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

coming to at&t, cited, is the citation reliable?

[edit]

Jmh010 (talk) 01:56, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks reliable to me - they say that their upcoming availability is from the manufacturer on the first link (use the first link rather than the second one). Websites like that can be wrong, but all information about things in the future can change, so that's as reliable as we can get at the moment. Dark-Fire (talk) 18:55, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

T-mobile

[edit]

is the phone supposed to come to the t-mobile network? 69.209.196.162 (talk) 21:16, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was released by T-Mobile ages ago - check out this link. The T-Mobile branded version is already mentioned in the article, so I don't understand what the point of your question is. Dark-Fire (talk) 01:58, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's in Europe I meant in the US dude. 69.209.196.162 (talk) 23:27, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, here isn't the place to discuss it. HTC normally take ages to release devices in the US. Dark-Fire (talk) 01:28, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean this isn't the place to discuss it? The release date for the phone on other networks have been discussed and integrated into the article. What makes this different? It's information a bout the device that can be usefull to the article. People might like to know whether or not it would be available in the U.S. on the t-mobile network when they visit the page. I don't understand what you're trying to do here... 69.209.196.162 (talk) 02:16, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - not somewhere for speculative information. The information about other networks was not discussed - they're verifiable facts. You should also remember that Wikipedia is not some sort of catalogue of devices that's designed to be useful to people looking to purchase a mobile device. If you can find a respectable website that says the Touch Diamond will be released on T-Mobile in the US, feel free to put that information in the article with the website as a reference. If you can't find a decent reference, it shouldn't be in the article. As I said, there's no need for a discussion over this - common sense should be used. Dark-Fire (talk) 03:09, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I never asked for speculative information. I asked if anyone had info on it's release date in the U.S. for the t-mobile network, as in a press release or from some other reliable source. What are you talking about? Did I add any info to the article no...I came to the talk page per the TOS to find out if anyone had any info on the release date, nowhere did I say "I'm gonna add some random release date to the article". Did you even read the questions I asked, no I don't think you did because your answers have nothing to do with the questions. Don't bother responding. You have no useful information to offer. Thanks.69.209.216.235 (talk) 05:00, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removing OS Section

[edit]

I'm going to remove the whole section that begins "The most common operating system..." for a few reasons:

1) Why is it trying to compare a version of Windows Mobile to a desktop OS (Windows Media Center)? What's the value of that?
2) "The menu across the bottom, for example, was not used in conventional Windows Mobile phones": there is no menu across the bottom in other Windows Mobile phones as the menu strip in question comes from the Touchflo 3D UI that HTC created for the the Diamond. Which has nothing at all to do with Windows Mobile so I'm not even sure why it's being mentioned in that context here and without any clarification that it's actually TF3D that adds this aspect.
3) "the Touch Diamond has retained the Start Menu which when tapped, opens a drop down menu with links to the main menus, like Home, People, Photos and Videos, Music, Internet and Program": when you hit the Start button on the Diamond, or any other phone running a version of Windows Mobile, the only menu item you get from that list is Programs, none of the rest of them exist. I suspect the original author is confusing the Start Menu with the TF3D UI which does have a similarly named list of sections, but that's just a guess.
4) "this is because the default Windows start menu since Windows XP show the six most recent programs opened by default": again we're conflating desktop and mobile version of Windows here which is a pointless comparison in my opinion as they're very different beasts. At the very most you could argue a (much more clearly written) version of this comment could belong in the article about Windows Mobile itself as it's a standard WinMob feature (from a particular version onwards), but as it's got nowt to do with this phone specifically it's rather pointless here.

In general I'd say this section could possibly be replaced with a paragraph describing the Touchflo 3D UI itself because that was specific to the Touch Diamond, but as that UI now appears in the Touch Pro and Touch HD it would probably be better having it's own article now. There's no need to talk about features of Windows Mobile itself here though as we've already got an article for that. Either way, this paragraph is a badly written jumble of information that conflates TF3D and Windows Mobile but without illuminating either, and it's too far wrong to make it worth even attempting a rewrite so I'm 'being bold' and wiping it.

--62.189.108.219 (talk) 16:20, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree. I was going to remove that section, but I was too lazy to provide the full explanation that you've written. There is already a TouchFLO 3D article, which needs significant expansion. Dark-Fire (talk) 19:17, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problems?

[edit]

A problems section, as far as I'm aware, is unusual in this sort of article. Also, most of the contents of the new section has nothing to do with problems with the device - it just talks about aspects of the design that some people don't like. For people who charge their phones overnight, the battery is good, and can survive very intense use. And it's hardly a huge problem to have to turn the screen on - there are various methods (including pressing the power button, removing the stylus, etc.) which only have one step. The only part of the 'Problems' section that I think is worthy of being in the article at all is the supposed screen production glitches - and even that would seem to be insignificant compared to the 'smudge' problem suffered by the HTC Touch. In conclusion, the new section seems to be written entirely to promote third party solutions to problems that aren't particularly problems at all - there's no mention of HTC's extended battery for the device, for example. Photograph

[edit]

Anyone got a proper photograph of this phone? I've got one, and it's beautiful, but this picture looks bad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.106.237.125 (talk) 04:41, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

THEN SIGN UP FOR WIKIPEDIA AND UPLOAD IT. Gosh, IP noobs don't realize how easy it is to sign up. --MasterOfTheXP (talk) 04:31, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Calm down, calm down. I can't take a picture of it because I don't have a camera apart from the one that's on the phone. OK? Idiot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CalumCook234 (talkcontribs) 19:44, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Idiot? Hey, not everything is obvious. --MasterOfTheXP (talk) 01:49, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I got my old camera out and took this. After a bit of editing, would everyone be happy with that photo? Dark-Fire (talk) 21:45, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just took this one too, which is at an angle and demonstrates the thickness of the phone. Dark-Fire (talk) 21:56, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hardware photo

[edit]

For the image in the Hardware section, why is the device in a bag?

Also, any chance for a photo of a Diamond that isn't on top of a Macbook? Just on a table, maybe?

Sorry for complaining, wish I could take the pictures myself, but I have a Touch Pro. --MasterOfTheXP (talk) 19:12, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have a Touch Diamond, but unfortunately it's my only decent camera - the best photo I could take is already on Wikipedia, and used to be this article's main picture. Dark-Fire (talk) 15:51, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just did a few photos with my webcam - they're not great, but they do show the Touch Diamond in it's dock rather than on a Mac or in a bag. Photo 1 and photo 2. Dark-Fire (talk) 16:13, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
