I'll pick this one up to review. Parsecboy (talk) 19:01, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- There are a few duplicate links in the article - I always recommend User:Evad37/duplinks-alt if you don't already have it
- Fixed.
- The body states 23,000shp, but the box lists 25,000shp
- Fixed.
- I've found Jellicoe's The Grand Fleet, 1914–1916: Its Creation, Development, and Work to be useful for the general comings and goings of the Grand Fleet up to Jutland - it may allow you to flesh out the first year or so of this ship's activities
- Added.
- I don't think I'd call Jutland a "skirmish" ;)
- Reworded.
- Do you know if Michael went to sea with the rest of the GF during the Action of 19 August 1916?
- I have not seen anything in the sources that I have.
- ""After the Armistice that ended the war," - when? Don't assume readers will know when the fighting stopped
- Added.
- "the ship was soon worn out" - this makes it sound like Michael was worn out after being placed in reserve. Switching "soon" to "already" might be an easy fix
- Changed.
- The final sentence has a lot of commas, which make it feel disjointed - can you reword so it flows better?
- Split into two.
- Sources are all high quality, and I'm familiar with many of them
I had a look in Campbell's Jutland: An Analysis of the Fighting, and found:
- On page 164: 11th Flotilla was sent to hunt for imaginary submarines at around 19:00
- On page 258: 11th Flotilla encountered heavy German units at around 21:00 and very nearly attacked, but broke off due to fears they were Beatty's battlecruisers (and Campbell asserts that "the powerful 11th Flotilla missed a fine opportunity...of inflicting serious damage" on battleships or battlecruisers of the HSF)
- On pages 274–5: Campbell states that the engagement with 4th Scouting Group pulled 11th Flotilla out of position, away from the head of the German line (which left the way largely open to Horns Rev)
- On page 288: 11th Flotilla is believed to have come under fire from SMS König at 23:45; Campbell again states that "A wonderful opportunity seems to have been lost for an attack on the rear of the German line when the van was heavily involved" (in action with the 4th Flotilla).
- Excellent spots. These are added.
- I had wondered about the title, because HMS Michael is currently a redlink, but the article states there were at least 2 others. Unnecessary for this review, but you may want to create the ship list so that someone else doesn't come along and move this one to the base location.
- Good shout.
Overall nice work - these are mainly nitpicks. Let me know if you want any or all of the full passages from Campbell. Parsecboy (talk) 20:30, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Parsecboy: Thank you for this review and the helpful pointers to other works. I believe all the edits are done, but please do tell me if there is more. simongraham (talk) 04:52, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
