ship history

[edit]

I know from my Fathers service papers, that he served as a stoker in the 2203, in Lanka from the 4th August 1944 until 27th November 1945. Prior to this he served in the 2060 from 25th April 1944 until 3rd August 1944. He transferred from the 2203 to the 2008 on the 28th November 1945 until 18th December 1945.All in Lanka.

At the time of my Fathers appraisal on 31st December 1944 the captains surname was Harris. among other captains in the flotilla who signed Dads appraisals each December 31st, were R.H Halliday, ??Farquharson and ?? Johnson. The initials of the signatures are not very clear. Although not appearing on Dads papers , I think I can remember another called Adams from the stories I was regaled with as a child.

I know that during Dads time in BYMS, he was involved in minesweeping and covert operations between Colombo in Ceylon, Chittagong and Akyab. I believe a lot of time was spent " up the chongs" which I understood to be the many arms of the irrawaddy delta.

En route to the east he was stationed for a short while in Simons Town, South Africa and possibly Singapore.

I hope this fills a small gap in the 2203,s history
