Move

[edit]

This river article needs to be renamed as Gumti River. Banglapedia says, river name is Gumti River (http://www.banglapedia.org/HT/G_0240.htm) --Aftab1995 (talk) 10:46, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for raising this matter. Currently, the term "Tripura" (in brackets) is being used here as a disambiguating suffix, not as part of the name, so the current name isn't actually in contradiction to what you say about "Gumti" being the correct name. The problem is that apparently "Gumti" is also a variant spelling of the name of another river, whose article is currently at Gomti River. The editors responsible for the current setup apparently felt that that other Gomti/Gumti was a lot more prominent than this one (at least it seems to be quite a bit bigger), so it would constitute the "primary topic" for the name "Gumti". Hence, Gumti River is a redirect to the other Gomti River, and this one here needs to have a disambiguation tag. The alternative would be to have a WP:Disambiguation page at the title Gumti River, linking to both of them, but as long as there are only two rivers in question and the one of them is actually considerably more prominent than the other, the current setup appears quite appropriate to me.
If you still think the page should be moved, you are welcome to open a discussion about it by filing a WP:Requested move, which will then be evaluated by an admin after a few days. Fut.Perf. 11:03, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
