Added the initial page, using the Aerosmith page as a template. Will update as more information is released. Spikey206 (talk) 10:45, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

It was formally announced at E3 2008. See this blog from G4 confirming the announcement of the game. http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/687019/Guitar_Hero_Metallica_Coming_Soon.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.54.90.159 (talk) 13:12, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

DLC in history section

The only portion referring to a different game is the accompanying announcement of Death Magnetic being available for Guitar Hero 3 as DLC. There's no mention of GH4 material (although DM has apparently been confirmed for release on Guitar Hero 4 as well, though that's only what I've heard).

Not sure why the DM DLC announcement was put in, but seeing that it was included during the game's announcement, I don't see a reason to remove that portion. If someone else does, go for it. 75.54.90.159 (talk) 13:09, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

"While other downloadable content from Guitar Hero III or Guitar Hero World Tour will not be usable in Guitar Hero: Metallica, the game will detect and incorporate the songs from the Death Magnetic downloadable content into the game's setlist." Any source on this? People who are considering buying a current Guitar Hero game would be interested to know whether they can hold off for GH:M and get all of Death Magnetic on it without buying a current GH game.

"Am I Evil" is not writter by Metallica but Diamond Head. My 2cents :) ~/Greek Warrior —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.49.213.41 (talk) 12:35, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

The addition of that wasn't referenced, thus the edit was reverted. --Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 12:44, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Guitar or Full Band?

Will this be guitar/bass only or will it also include vocals and drums?--Kamikaze14 (talk) 02:41, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

There is yet to be any news on this. --MASEM 02:43, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
It will mostly likely be like GH:Aerosmith. UltimateSin01 (talk) 13:44, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, no. GH: Aerosmith came out before WT. GH: Metallica is coming out after. It could really go either way. 142.68.223.93 (talk) 03:02, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm not saying it will be just the guitar, i'm just basing it on GH: Aerosmith. Plus it's not a direct GH game (like GH1, 2, 3 & WT), its like a side game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by UltimateSin01 (talkcontribs) 19:08, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Any information on hardware interoperability would be useful to people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alchemista2 (talkcontribs) 13:59, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I haven't seen any information (probably too soon, or maybe it is just expected to be the case) but I'd find it hard to believe that instrument compat will not be there, save for the RB drums and the "Expert Plus" mode. --MASEM 14:54, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I just finished reading this months gameinformer, and it had a story on guitar hero metallica, and they confirmed full band, & it's own music studio. here is a link here it is —Preceding unsigned comment added by Estemshorn (talkcontribs) 15:50, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

There is a better quality version of the logo that can be found here. It's taken from Activision's official GH:M website. DVD Smith (talk) 09:05, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Partially Erased Setlist

Why were several songs erased from the confirmed setlist? They were definitely confirmed by Game Informer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.193.165.150 (talk) 05:52, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

A while back (last day or so) someone had renamed a few songs to fake ones, and another editor just outright removed them instead of reverting the change. I've fixed that. --MASEM 06:00, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Release Date

It has been confirmed on IGN.com and at CES that the release date for this game is March 29, 2009. Why is it that every time I change it to read the proper release date it gets changed back to Q1 2009? March 29th is the release date until specified otherwise. The source that is sited for the release date is 5 months old now as well... I even sited IGN's Guitar Hero Metallica page where it explicitly says that the 29th is the release date but it STILL got changed back. I thought Wikipedia was supposed to provide knowledge about a subject specifically when this game comes out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JustinTyme (talkcontribs) 01:30, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't see any news report out of CES that confirms a date, only that it was shown. Both IGN and 1up have different dates and no source for them. Given that they may be using the most reasonable dates of "by March 2009" --MASEM 06:17, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

I'd have to say that both Gamespot and IGN are a more reputable source than 1up and both have the release date set as March 29, 2009. Both have journalists in attendance at CES this year and IGN rarely puts up a release date that is merely the subject of rumors or skepticism. Though that is more of just a personal taste. Hell, according to 1Up.com the release date is March 15th of last year. -- JustinTyme 01:30, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Another source confirming the release date is a local radio station in South Florida, 93.1. They have confirmed several times that Guitar Hero Metallica will be released March 29. —Preceding unsigned comment added by C2darizzle (talkcontribs) 08:41, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Gamespot says that the wii and Ps2 versions will be realeased in may, so you should change it to say the first half of 2009 instead of the first quarter.--Metal Health (talk) 00:01, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Well yesterday I went on to my facebook page, in which i am a fan of metallica, and they sent an announcement out over facebook saying the release date of Guitar Hero Metallica was March 29.....for those curious, this is what the message reads: Remember that "first half of 2009" stuff? Well, we actually have a real date for you now for the all 'Tallica Guitar Hero game . . . March 29 in North America for Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3, with our friends outside of North America seeing the game in early May. Nintendo Wii and PS2 will follow later in the Spring, also most likely in early May.

In case you missed the December news story, Guitar Hero Metallica allows you to play as us in either single instrument or band career game modes in your choice of some famous settings or new venues with in the round staging. Included are 28 Metallica songs along with a few from some of our favs like Alice in Chains, the Foo Fighters, Slayer, Machine Head and Queen. There is also an all new Expert+ difficulty setting featuring two bass drum kick pedals (!!!) along with all the gameplay modes from Guitar Hero World Tour.

We've got some fun stuff planned leading up to release, and of course more details and previews of the game, so stay tuned! And if you would like to check out the trailer again, go here: http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=601748 www.metallica.com Source: www.metallica.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.155.66.175 (talk) 14:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

New multiplayer interface

There is also now a rock meter on each players chart in multiplayer so you now know who is failing in multiplayer. Source[1]

This was already in GH:WT. The "band" rock meter was calculated by an average of all players, but each player had their own rock meter displayer using a bar graph underneath the band rock meter. Three new songs I added were removed

I added Am I Evil?, Whiplash, and Mommy's Little Monster but they all were removed, along with the provided link. Anyone got an explanation?--Unknownsage13 (talk) 01:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

The article [2] states this (quoting the ESRB): Rating summary: This is a music and rhythm simulation game featuring the heavy metal band Metallica. Players can perform songs using on-screen avatars with various instruments. Players simulate playing guitar, bass, or drums and are scored based on the accuracy of notes hit. Some song lyrics contain expletives (e.g., “damn,” “bastard,” and “b*tch”) and sexual references (e.g., “Mommy’s little monster had sex at 15″ and “sweet and timely whore, take me home”). Some song lyrics also make references to violence (e.g., “We’re gathered here to maim and kill” and “I got a gunsight trained on you”). Some of the players’ outfits are low-cut and revealing, while tattoo designs depict women in provocative poses and clothing (e.g., a fantastical succubus with cleavage and panties). This not specifically list songs but instead we have to infer what those songs are from the given lyrics. Yes 99.9% those are the songs, but there is no clear statement those songs are listed, thus it's original research to make that connection. (even the Gonintendo article doesn't make that statement). --MASEM 01:35, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Didn't someone put up the three first songs of Modern Hits using common sense also?--Unknownsage13 (talk) 01:38, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
In that case, we have a source that explicitly states those lyrics. If there was an article that cited the ESRB and also claimed the songs, then we can use that. But we at WP cannot make the connection ourselves. --MASEM 01:41, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
What about this link? http://www.destructoid.com/guitar-hero-metallica-esrb-listing-reveals-songs-succubus-cleavage-and-panties-119029.phtml It's what the GoNintendo article sourced to.--Unknownsage13 (talk) 01:43, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
That still states the same thing, it states exactly what you are trying to say.

just wait until you find a reliable source that actually confirms the songs —Preceding unsigned comment added by Estemshorn (talkcontribs) 02:51, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Many Bad Links In Article

i'm sure one and whiplash both have articles, but still i see like five red links on the song list... if they do not have an article, please just remove the link. if it does, then change the list to use that article. thanks. Estemshorn (talk) 02:56, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

BTW, if anyone wants to start the List of songs in Guitar Hero: Metallica, we should be able to do that now, just make sure to let me know (I've got to keep the Feeatured Topic to date) --MASEM 04:10, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

On GameInformer, they report that there are 45 songs from Metallica, and 21 from other bands. One of the articles referenced also states this. This should be edited. http://gameinformer.com/NR/exeres/2ECEB70E-F784-4E4C-A84A-24A3EE6B47C5.htm You may or may not need a gameinformer subscription to see the page.- RealUnrealRob

Slayer Controversy

[3] shows that 'Angel Of Death' was going to be used however it got cut due to the lyrics. Should this be put in soundtrack section as info? 81.102.238.174 (talk) 22:50, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

It should be added, but in Development (lot of good stuff in that). --MASEM 23:02, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Should this be mentioned

I noticed that two songs, One & Ace of Spades, have been in previous guitar hero games.Should it be mentioned that it's the 1st time that a on-disc song is on another guitar hero title? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.63.176.244 (talk) 02:56, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

If the songs are listed here and listed in their respective other games they've been in I don't really see the point. If you want to get into technicalities, you could say the first song to appear twice is Carry On Wayward Son in Guitar Hero II and Rock Band 2 since Harmonix made both of those games. Either way, it's not really worth mentioning. DJKingpin (talk) 03:15, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Wii release date

The Wii version is being released on March 29th along with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions. Go check Amazon, GameStop and even RedOctane's official online store. That's what it says. Misteryoshi}} 02:38, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

It's a good idea to never go with what store websites say. Just wait until an official announcement. As of right now the only official announcement for the Wii Version is Q2. -DJKingpin (talk) 03:05, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

The "Other Buddy"

Aside from Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead being a playable character, Metallica's webpage states that aside from Lemmy, "(They)convinced another buddy to join in the fun that is Guitar Hero..." (http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=601924. It will likely be Bob Seger considering the track is from a live performance, and this would truly capture the live experience. Also, Bob Seger has been highly involved with Guitar Hero, especially with the commercials. Finally, Bob Seger released a DLC pack to get some of his songs out of the way. If he is indeed the second character, as proven with other motion-captured artists, he will likely be done with Guitar Hero. Riffrider (talk) 18:41, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Grammatical Correction

In the "Soundtrack" section, in the first paragraph, there is a grammatical error (repetition). It is currently: "All of the Metallica songs in the game are from original masters, though locating some masters proved troublesome to locate." It should be something like: "All of the Metallica songs in the game are from original masters, though some of the masters proved troublesome to locate." (I would make this small change, but i am not autoconfirmed yet) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Phalangification (talkcontribs) 00:08, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Lynyrd Skynyrd typo

On the original cover of Guitar Hero: Metallica, the band "Lynyrd Skynyrd" was incorrectly spelled, as noted by Rolling Stone, next to the "Hero". It was spelt "Lynyrd Skynrd". Source: http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/new-guitar-hero-game-misspells-quot-lynyrd-skynyrd-quot-/1289712 Lennyfoshenny (talk) 23:44, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

it's already been noted in the article. Estemshorn (talk) 01:18, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

New Cover

Red Octane already fixed the lynyrd skynyrd typo and also added in the top right corner "play on carrer or with full band." check it out over here http://www.redoctane.com/Browse-by-Title/Guitar-Hero-Metallica/Guitar-Hero-Metallica-Game-Only-Wii can someone update it please. King Diamond

I know he is pretty much confirmed, but there isn't an official source as of right now. Linking to a site that has the trophy list from the PS3 version of the game isn't a verifiable source. DJKingpin (talk) 01:55, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

To Masem: I agree that ScoreHero is a good source, but there isn't a source there. They just mention King Diamond being in a trophy list on a different site. How do we even know if it's true at this point? This was found close to a week ago and nothing has been confirmed, so who knows when it will be announced? DJKingpin (talk) 01:57, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
The trophy site is not the best reliability in the long term, but it is reported news. But in a day or so, I'm sure a more reputable site will report this bit of news. --MASEM 05:27, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
And as expected, a more reliable source has confirmed the King Diamond presence in the game (also confirming "Evil" to be re-recording master.) --MASEM 16:47, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

To all- are there any other songs with King Diamond besides Evil? A source said that there are many songs featuring him. Also I think the mention of him as a playable character should be put back in. Riffrider (talk) 04:59, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

GameTrailers interview

Truthfully I'm not interested enough in the game to make these additions myself, but this video has a lot of goodies that could benefit the article. --Teancum (talk) 12:48, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

I looked through it, and most of the facts Flores stated, we've got covered already. The only "new" info is the years of some of the songs, but not all the songs, so I don't think we should add that yet. --MASEM (t) 14:17, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Bundled version

Looks like there will be a bundled version after all, with the game + a wireless guitar: http://www.redoctane.com/Browse-by-Title/Guitar-Hero-Metallica/Guitar-Hero-Metallica-Wireless-Bundle-GameGuitar-Xbox-360 ...The current information on the page is therefore wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.221.36.218 (talk) 22:34, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

also on that note, is this [4]. while yes retailers aren't necessarily reliable, that's pretty clearly a bundled package. 61.68.100.238 (talk) 07:23, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
If there were any plans to release a bundled version, then a special announcement would have been made if they were only available through such outlets as online retailers, or (if they were available everywhere) then there would be bundles in stores nationwide. Further, someone would have already found information regarding it, what it would contain that would set it apart from the standalone game. When I bought my copy yesterday, I saw no bundles ANYWHERE in the store (I went to Target), and if there were any produced, they would have been all over that section. Instead, they still had bundles for Aerosmith. Thus I feel disinclined to regard those sources, as it appears that, should there be one, it is only available outside North America (The one that shows an actual bundle design is from the Australian EBGames site), or it simply comes with the exact same guitar (with no special faceplate or anything else) from World Tour as offered through RedOctane's site. If such a bundled package as described in the latter link were produced, then the search I ran on Google (AFTER the game was released) would have turned up at least one article that proclaimed such a release. (Instead all I got were forum posts hoping for the bundle). I think that themed faceplates is as far as they will go - even if Target had to clear out older inventory to put it there, as it was clearly a big occasion. Tubularbells1993 (talk) 01:32, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
It's possible that what we saw on the EBGames link was only a concept, I have never seen it elsewhere Tubularbells1993 (talk) 17:31, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

IGN Hands-on

[5] Mostly a note to myself, but I don't see anything "new" that needs to be added, only corroborating statements. --MASEM (t) 04:01, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Release date - Australia

According to http://au.ps3.ign.com/objects/142/14294148.html the release date for Australia is Q2 2009, not Q1 as stated in the info box. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to update the info box. Could someone please assist? Thanks. Dgen (talk) 12:34, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

more specifically 27/5/09 according to [6] and [7]. 59.101.122.22 (talk) 00:40, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Input methods.

Since the game is made like Guitar Hero: World Tour, the wii remote may not be a useable controller by itself, as it isn't usable on World Tour. I don't know if the same is true for PS3/Xbox 360. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Metal Health (talkcontribs) 00:35, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

So I thought I'd clear it up here before I bothered with another tag that'll get reverted in 4 seconds. The intro section is full of "Some Reviewers" and "Most Critics." Not NPOV per WP:Avoid weasel words.
