Move to Guajataca Dam?
I'm in two minds about this, but leaning more towards the dam title, as most reservoirs topics are covered under the article of the respective dam which creates that reservoir. Due to the failure, we will also be getting much more info on the dam itself. Comments open. Rehman 01:08, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
- I could see it being possible, but I still think the current name is good. Pastorma (talk) 03:36, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
- No. Lake and dam are two distinctive features, and there is missing a lot of information on the lake part of the article. The dam is only one part of the lake the lake; other aspects which should be discussed in the article are hydrography, flora, fauna amongst other topics. However, the article's name is wrong since the Geographic Names Board of the USGS decided that Lago de Guajataco is the official American name of the lake, and that's the name used on the maps of the USGS. --Matthiasb (talk) 14:03, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

- This page should be called Guajataca Lake for several reasons:
- It was moved to Lago de Guajataco which is the incorrect name, Spanish or English. It is not a taco.
- Guajataca Lake is much more common in news reports and in Google searches in the English language. Does not matter about USGS, as we have a WP:COMMONNAME policy.
- English Wikipedia should prefer English names if all else is equal. But it's not equal - the English title is far more prevalent, with about double the hits in Google: Lago [1] vs Lake [2]. In Google News, the difference is even more dramatic.
- Please consider these when naming articles. We have policy for this, and it's not just going with USGS names. -- Fuzheado | Talk 15:38, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- Common to a bunch of folks on the mainland who have never seen the place or heard of it before a week ago doesn't meet WP:COMMONNAME. The people in the area who have been referring to it for decades and the USGS are what is common - not just recentism. Just because the US press called Dwight Watson, Tractor man, we don't make that the name of the article. Besides, you do not have consensus for that move. Please revert and stop WP:Edit waring and we can do without the racial slurs, thank you! Toddst1 (talk) 15:46, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, but WP:COMMONNAME says nothing about mainland or whether the Wikipedia article writer has touched ground on the territory in question. This is what it says: Wikipedia generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources). I have provided the proof of this and it's solidly clear. I definitely think the Spanish language name should be in the lead right next to the common English title, and harbor no ill will or ethnic chauvanism here. It's simply what we do as our style. I am not edit warring, as I moved it back from an erroneous title, lest Google and other engines start picking up "Guajataco" as a proper spelling, which it already started doing (sigh). That's not reverting out of warrring, that's reverting to correct an objective error. And please don't falsely accuse me or anyone of "racial slurs," as there is nothing of the sort. - Fuzheado | Talk 15:55, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- WP:BRD has only 1 R.
- You never discussed such a move, which is how we do things. I don't see any consensus.
Take your "taco" slur back to DC where it's welcome.

- Clearly the manufactured outrage at "taco" is an attempt to win the argument by portraying the issue as "racial." That's a disappointing approach that clearly tries to capitalize on WP:ABF. Please be a better Wikipedian than that. It seems like you were an administrator once, so you should know these principles well. That said, this is no regular WP:BRD situation. The move you executed, and still have not acknowledged as a problem, was to an erroneous name - Lago de Guajataco[sic]. Leaving it in that state is not only wrong, but misleading as it makes its way to Google. Already, it shows up in Google's Knowledge Graph box in its erroneous state. That's a big problem. Leaving the article in that condition just pollutes the information sphere so please be more careful. I didn't try to characterize your edit as a "slur" or malicious or as anything other than a simple error, so I'd appreciate it if you also assumed good faith in a spirit of cooperation. Thanks. -- Fuzheado | Talk 16:37, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

- Actual Latino here. Todd, please shut up with this taco nonsense. I find your fake outrage offensive. Gamaliel (talk) 17:08, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- Since when are tacos common to all of Latin America? You can fuck right off with that ignorant stereotype. Signed: a Mexican. 107.77.223.181 (talk) 17:32, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- I get it. I've accidentally propagated Matthiasb's typo when I followed his wikilink. It seemed like Fuzheado was using a racial slur when he used it[3] and was arguing for the english version. I had the same reaction to what I thought was an ignorant stereotype. Facepalm Toddst1 (talk) 22:17, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, that makes a lot more sense now that you see the typo. In the spirit of comity, as with the removal of the comment on my talk page, can we strike all f--- words on this page? -- Fuzheado | Talk 23:34, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
