This page shouldn't become a duplicate of Grinnell College's, so I'm inclined to say Herbie Hancock doesn't belong on the list of famous residents; unlike the other three listed at the moment (Flanagan, Hopkins, Noyce), I don't think he was ever anything more than a student at the college. Peter (Cohon) Coyote never resided in Grinnell either, save, if I am not mistaken, his time as a student. Many notable figures and performers have stopped through Grinnell. Are they, e.g., Bruce Springstein, residents? Ridiculous.

I stubed in an entry for Grinnell Mutual. As this company is based in Grinnell, I think it should be mentioned on the Ginnell page. Not being from Grinnell, I wasn't sure the best way to work this in. I was hoping someone who works on this page could find a way to add it. Thanks. HornColumbia

I noticed there have been many vandalism reverts here recently. The vandalism all comes from the IP below. It traces to the K-12 school district in Grinnell Iowa. If needed we could ask to have this IP blocked, or ask the schools IT people to block the site. However, it is probably just a few kids making a joke. The other option is just to wait for them to grow up. At least they are learning to write! I haven't dealt with much wiki vandalism, so any other user's thoughts on this are welcome. Economy and industry

[edit]

I'm thinking about a new section that discusses the economic side of the city. Because of GMRC and being a center for nearby agriculture, the city has more than its fair share of insurance-related businesses. Additionally, Miracle Recreation Equipment Company should be included. Does anyone else have any ideas for other "landmark" businesses? WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:51, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Famous Architects list, students as residents comment

[edit]

I do not see César Pelli (listedhttp://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Cesar_Pelli) under famous architects with buildings in town. I am not sure if this is because the buildings in question are on the college campus or they have just been overlooked as more recent additions. The buildings in question are: 1. 2001: Bucksbaum Center for the Arts at Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa; 2. 2001: Athletic and Fitness Center at Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa; 3. 2006: Joe Rosenfield '25 Center, Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa [1] If the buildings are not included on the town of Grinnell page they should be listed in the college write up in my opinion.

For what it is worth I agree with the contributor who thought that those famous people who were only students should not be listed as residents. If you are going to do that you might as well include the actor who went to the college. I don't remember if it was Gary Cooper or Cary Grant. The college would know. The actor did not graduate, just attended. But if you are going for tenuous relationships to famous people you might as well include them all. I think making those claims of residency for students makes the town look like a little ridiculous, which is unfortunate, as it is a pleasant place.

Those buildings seem to be mentioned at Grinnell College#Campus instead, which is probably more appropriate. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:08, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

POV tag for museum

[edit]

"Iowa Transportation Museum was built in order to recognize the special people across the transportation industry. The Museum receive $3.6 million in federal appropriation through the efforts of Senator Chuck Grassley and the Iowa congressional delegation. Phase One of the construction project was recently completed in April 2012. The former administrative building of the Spaulding Manufacturing Company has been restored to its original appearance. At the same time however, it has today's modern features which makes it the perfect place to host that special event. A unique facility with a transportation theme can accommodate groups up to the size of 200 people.[26]"

This entire section reads like it was written by a member of the museum staff or perhaps the staff of Senator Grassley. I propose that it be changed to something like this. "The Iowa Transportation museum was built to recognize the transportation industry. The Museum received $3.6 million in Federal appropriation. The former administrative building of the Spaulding Manufacturing Company has been restored to its original appearance." I have removed the final two sentences. V.
