Legacy Section
[edit]Can we lose the Apple advertising from the legacy section? It would be better to point the article toward the brand agnostic Tablet Computer page if we're going to compare GRiD's products to modern tablets than to schill for a gigantic multinational patent troll like Apple. 142.196.250.124 (talk) 22:35, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Deaths
[edit]Two high profile deaths in Grid/Penight development, ended the Grid/Penright dominance. The death of the main GRiDPaD/Penright! developer left the company stuck, as, they failed to have a contingency plan, and for 2 years, could not get development started again. And the main developing company Phoenix Call Reporting (PCR), later WindSoft/WindSoft Wireless (now defunct), with thousands of units in the field, failed under new management after the death of the founder, to a motorcycle accident. In 1990, PCR/WindSoft ranked as #97 on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing companies, yet, was running without a company president, as the company president was undergoing cancer treatments, and the company was being run by programmers, salesman, and managers. After a few years, and enormous growth, they hired a company president, a friend of the company president, and within months, under new leadership, the company failed, and it was discovered the new company president, lacked even a high school diploma. The PenRight library was reverse engineered by 1994, but Grid/Penright were not pursuing unlicensed copies, so, there was no market for software that people and companies were taking for free. Identification by signature, failed to get one customer. New Management blamed the downfall of WindSoft, on a developer whom withdrew his $7,000 investment, and he left the company, after new management let the top salesman go, and failed to get any new customers.
recognition by
[edit]Recognition by signature method: First platform to be able to identify people by one of their methods of signing, and not the signature itself. [WindSoft(Defunct)/Developer Norman Graham].
Gait recognition: The device itself, could determine the gait method, and other movements, by the authorized company employee.
Today we would call this information "privacy sensitive information", but at the time, the data belonged to whomever collected it.
Note the Power button was severed. Grid was the first device, to have the power off button severed, so, the device could not be turned off by the user, and capture data during transit.
XIP Execute in Place
[edit]Execute in place, allowed a program on the RAM drive or burned on an eprom, to be executed without being loaded, thus, more memory on the handheld devices was available for application use. XIP was developed at WindSoft (defunct). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.72.88.128 (talk) 16:59, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
