grey vs. gray

[edit]

Why is the spelling "grey" (BE) used, when the rest of the article follows AE spelling (e.g. color, not colour)? 129.132.71.227 (talk) 14:39, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Both spellings are acceptable in AE. VMS Mosaic (talk) 03:49, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gray component applies to additive primaries

[edit]

I spent some time in the 80' and 90's in various color models for the pre-press industry, and the term "gray component" was something that applied equally to both additive (RGB) and subtractive (CMY) color spaces. It was a common thing to refer to because internally in many rendering engines, the base model was always RGB and converted to CMY for (obviously subtractive) printers, or left alone for cameras + displays, etc. So the gray component was computed from RGB to produce a new RGBW, and converted to CMY as needed later.Tgm1024 (talk) 13:07, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
