Controversy
[edit]This guy is not a popular mayor. He's basically using environmentalism to mask what is essentially a power trip. This article should be expanded to highlight some of the controversy surrounding this mayor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.121.106.8 (talk) 20:47, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Neutrailty tag 2.0
[edit]Many flattering changes have been made from within the City of Seattle.
ie
"Mayor Nickels is known for his outspoken commitment to environmental protection."
to:
"Mayor Nickels is a national leader on environmental issues"

Lack of both sides
[edit]Is it me, or does this article seem to only focus on the opinions of Nickel's supporters and not on his opponents? He does have opposition; the goofed monorail project, the Key Arena debate, his stance on the viaduct/tunnel, his policies on homelessness, and, of course, strippergate. I don't really see much of anything in regards to his unpopularity in the article, and it seems a little off being it's well-known that he's not everyone's favorite mayor. I put up the NPOV to get a debate-of-sorts going about this kind of concern - any thoughts? Editor19841 (talk) 23:17, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
It is just facts
[edit]While I think this article was probably written by one of Nickel's supporters, I think it is factually based. The "highlights of career" section (or the entire article) could definately be expanded and be more complete. I would agree that the current highlights, other than his work on Sound Transit, do not include the most notable events of his time in office, and from that standpoint, it could be seen as not biased.
should be expanded
[edit]It is incomplete and coincidentally the omissions are in Greg Nickels' favor.

Comments on climate change
[edit]This BBC article covers the details of the local efforts to implement Kyoto, at least from Greg Nickels' point of view. --Brianmc 10:36, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Information on Child
[edit]It seems relevant that his kid has been indicted by a federal grand jury for very serious fraud charges, especially since the entry allready discussed information on his family.
Neutrailty tag?
[edit]I think this article should be expanded, and of course that should be balanced expansion, but as is I'm not sure it should have a tag disputing its neutrality. Do others still see a need for the tag? Just because there is more factual positive information than negative does not mean there is an NPOV violation. Thoughts? Benzocane 23:29, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it does tend to focus on the positive aspects of Mayor Nickels. The only thing negative is his son's indictment. On the other hand, the person that left the tag didn't explain themselves as required, so it can be removed. --Bobblehead (rants) 00:24, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree and have removed the tag. Of course if there is relevant material regarding opposition, it should be added. It seems to be more of a stub issue than an NPOV issue at this point! Benzocane 01:37, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Took the tag off, again. It's fairly neutral. Negative stuff can be added if it's sourced. • Lawrence Cohen 05:30, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
I have added the "Political Controversy" section. All are sourced and I feel that it properly balances this Wiki page. It's in its own separate section towards the bottom to not muddy up the other sections. It's very similar to many other pages about political figures. - Ethan
- Actually, there was only one reference in the entire section and that one was an extremely minor "controversy". Please read WP:RS and WP:BLP before adding them again. Controversies and criticisms of Nickels should be included in the article, but they should be added in a manner that complies with Wikipedia's policies, particularly WP:BLP and WP:NPOV. --Bobblehead (rants) 16:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Snow Response
[edit]Okay, a blog by one of the writers in The Stranger -- something that didn't even appear in the print edition -- should not be given the same weight as a series of articles from The Seattle Times. No way. And the defending sentence is far too weasel-ish with the "some" line. I'm going to try to source some more of the criticism, and I'll lay out the line of thinking for the city officials involved...but at this time I think the article's giving way too much space to the untenable opinions of the city, and (specifically) Nickels. He's hugely unpopular right now because of this issue, and it may even deserve a separate section. ColorOfSuffering (talk) 00:24, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
