Image copyright problem with Image:SpiderMan96.jpg
[edit]The image Image:SpiderMan96.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.
This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --06:22, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Infobox image
[edit]Couple of things things with this:
- Crease aside, File:SpiderMan96.jpg is a more legable and useful image than File:AmazingSpiderMan96.jpg.
- The only fair use guideline that currently has a numeric value attached is within WP:CMOS, though that one seems at odds with general use. The project level MoS states "usually with a longest dimension no greater than 200-300 pixels" though practice has been "usually with a width no greater than 200-300 pixels". The rest of the guidelines have moved to a more general tone looking for low/screen resolution and the "area" being smaller than the original. And for context: Until recently I was under the impression that the upper level guides spelled out numeric limits based on the "200-300px" range and ".1 megapixil". Getting called on it for scaling down large - just under minimum monitor resolution of 800x600px - screen caps.
Right now File:SpiderMan96.jpg does work within the reasons sated in its FUR here and at Spider-Man and Comics Code Authority. It is consistent with like images used for infoboxes of comics related articles - which are slightly wider than what the 'box shows - and comics covers in general. And it is not a good choice, even if it were "high res", for other to curtail Marvel's commercial opportunities. A less than pristine cover isn't a place for a knock-off to start.
