Questionable 'Notable resident'

[edit]

I am not sure if it is well intended or a spurious addition. I notice in the section Notable residents this person appears. His name is not wikilinked but there is an article on a cricketer called Michael Hands, who, being born in 1951, would have been of age to be possibly moving into Ryton, although nothing of Shropshire is mentioned in the article. I ask if this is the same man:

Michael Hands is known around the village for his good looks, charm and friendly personality and has resided in Ryton since 1996.

In the meantime I have decided to delete the sentence from the article - it can be put back, with more relevant detail and citation please.Cloptonson (talk) 19:18, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To compensate for removing Michael Hands I have put in General Sir Peter de la Billiere who lived at Ryton in youth. I have cited a recent newspaper report of an event he attended in his capacity as a Korean War veteran that mentioned he said he lived at Ryton 'south of Shrewsbury', thus distinguishing it from the village of Ryton near Shifnal. I am aware he also mentioned much of his Ryton years in his autobiography, which I do not have a copy of but if users who have it would like to cite it with relevant pages they are welcome to put it in as a 'better source'.Cloptonson (talk) 07:56, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
