Christmas or Festive?

[edit]

The main name should be "Great Orchestra of Festive Help" or "Charity" not "Great Ortchestra of Christmas Charity". It has nothing to do with Christmas and the name in Polish means "Festive" not "Christmas"! Please change the main name in both English and German! Regards, Tomasz Piotrowski I think the name should be simply "Wielka Orkiestra Swiatcznej Pomocy.", translated to English in brackets. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.7.170.134 (talk) 10:24, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at the English language website and stop whining. That's the official English name of WOŚP: "Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity". MarcoosPL (talk) 21:03, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great or Grand

[edit]

The main title translation should use word 'Grand' instead of 'Great'. There is no such thing as Great Orchestras (on the other hand there are many Grand ones indeed), english adjective 'great' carries intensity charge and is not commonly used to describe importance. Word 'grand' used to emphasis on impotence and scale provides just the fit as is commonly used to describe such things of great significance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.108.138.148 (talk) 19:56, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would also question the translation of Orkiestra (Polish) as 'Orchestra' (English). It seems to me that 'Orchestration', basically meaning 'organisation', would be more appropriate. According to the big PWN E-P/P-E dictionary, there is a Polish word 'Orkiestracja' but the Poles I have spoken to over the last few days (since the 24th event, on Sunday the 10th, 2015) have never used it, or didn't know it existed. While 'orchestrate' can indeed often have connotations of 'manipulate' in English, it can simply mean 'to organise'. Perhaps 'Great/Grand Orchestration of Holiday/Christmas Help' might be translations worth considering for this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.127.48.154 (talk) 23:19, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You are wrong. This is 'Orchestra' not 'Orchestration' (never know that word). They even refer to their activity as 'playing' or 'performing' eg. 'we are playing for the 25 time in a row this year'. It's kinda whacky, not so serious name, because their front man Jerzy Owsiak is like that. His other projects include 'Mrówka Cała' ('Whole Ant'), and 'Złoty Melon' ('Golden Melon'). So GOCC is a little strange name, but it is what it is Kooba6 (talk) 18:45, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
