Great Britain at the OlympicsThe British at the Olympics – Great Britain may be our chosen name for the Olympics. However, I don't think it makes sense to use on this Article. British people can compete for Team GB. And all British people don't live in Great Britain. E.g Northern Ireland and all of the UK's crown dependencies and overseas territories. Therefore it isnt technically "Great Britain" at the omypics, its the "British".

Which is why we should change the name. Due to from a technical and readers expedients/(expected relative to similar articles) the name is wrong. Ned (talk) 16:44, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Do not move, Great Britain is the official IOC designation. Any other name would be original research.--Ymblanter (talk) 09:29, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Do not move As above, seems pointless, what next? change the football title from UEFA European Championship to UEFA European Championship plus Israel? Leave the titles for governing bodies to sort out. Iantheimp (talk) 10:14, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Do not move - 'British' people can compete under the banner of a different nation in various circumstances (and vice versa) making the suggested title less accurate. violet/riga [talk] 13:29, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Do not move - every two years this comes up. For previous similar discussions that explain why various Olympic pages are named as they are see here, here, here, here, here and here. See you all again for the same conversation at Tokyo 2020 - Basement12 (T.C) 15:25, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Katherine Grainger

[edit]

Why is Dame Katherine Jane Grainger not in this list?? She has 5 Olympic medals in Rowing: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Katherine_Grainger

The list has people with 3 gold medals. Grainger has 1 gold and 4 silver. -- Jonel (Speak to me) 20:07, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Great Britain Summer Olympics 1900

[edit]

Can anyone explain why the number of silver medals won by GB at this Games has recently been increased by two? Drams707 (talk) 01:11, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply and the work you've been doing on this. I can see that Hildebrand (cycling) has been redesignated as British rather than French but I'm unclear who the second addition is. I'm guessing Calverley (sailing) but would be grateful if you could confirm who it is. Thanks again. Drams707 (talk) 11:55, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

   Сhanges are as follows.
   1) In connection with the 1896-1904 revision:
      Cycling Men's 25km - Lloyd Hildebrand - plus 1 silver
      Water Polo - minus 1 gold
   2) Out of connection with the 1896-1904 revision, there was missed Sailing 20+ ton event:
      Cecil Quentin - plus 1 gold
      Selwin Calverley - plus 1 silver
   So, total changes:
      gold = -1 +1 = 0
      silver = +1 +1 = +2

Thanks once again! Drams707 (talk) 13:47, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Too many images impacts usability on mobile

[edit]

If you view this page on the mobile interface, you'll find that the sections don't collapse as they should. This seems to be because there are too many images, in particular the "Medals by sport" section has three for every medal: one for gold/silver/bronze, one for the host country's flag, and one for the sport. I think we should dispense with the latter two for the sake of usability. Hairy Dude (talk) 02:06, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
