The Altoona Bishop's Memos need to be published
[edit]They both detail an interesting cover-up when he worked in Erie.2601:447:4101:41F9:C40D:F5DB:D0DB:CE8A (talk) 21:31, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
Should this article focus solely on the six-diocese investigation?
[edit]Currently, this article is entitled Sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic dioceses of Pennsylvania. However, it only covers the grand jury investigation into the six dioceses. The other two dioceses -- Philadelphia and Altoona-Johnstown -- are just stubs with links to their own articles.
I'm wondering if this article should focus entirely on the six-diocese investigation? If so, the following changes would be made:
- This page would would get a new name, making it clear what its contents are. Maybe Sexual abuse scandal in six Catholic dioceses of Pennsylvania?
- The stub sections for Philadelphia and Altoona-Johnstown would be removed, and instead we would have a "See Also" section at the bottom with links to those diocesan investigations.
Thoughts? If you think that the page should focus on just the six dioceses, what should it be named? — Lawrence King (talk) 02:26, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- I think this page should focus on the grand jury. And it should be renamed to something like Grand jury investigation into sexual abuse in six Catholic dioceses of Pennsylvania. "Scandal" is inappropriate. zzz (talk) 22:19, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- I wish that the title could be shorter. The current title (61 characters) is already one of the longest article title in this category, and your proposed title is 83 characters. But I can't figure out how to shorten it. Could we could drop the word "six" (the lede would still make it clear that it's about six dioceses)? Could we drop the words "Grand jury", or would that make the title too vague? Other ideas? — Lawrence King (talk) 06:00, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- I think "Grand jury investigation" is useful identifying information. I don't know how much of "six Catholic dioceses of Pennsylvania" is needed. zzz (talk) 06:23, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- Maybe "Grand jury investigation into sexual abuse in Pennsylvania Catholic dioceses", or "Grand jury investigation into sexual abuse in Pennsylvania Catholic Church"? Or perhaps better, "Pennsylvania grand jury investigation into sexual abuse in the Catholic Church" or "Pennsylvania grand jury investigation into Catholic Church sexual abuse"? — Lawrence King (talk) 06:36, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- I think the first one is probably right, "Grand jury investigation into sexual abuse in Pennsylvania Catholic dioceses". (Or, "Grand jury investigation into sexual abuse in six Pennsylvania Catholic dioceses"). zzz (talk) 06:42, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- I shortened it slightly, to "Grand jury investigation of Catholic Church sexual abuse in Pennsylvania". (As long as we are dropping "six", we can drop "dioceses" as well -- the lede and the graphic you added at the top make it clear that were are dealing with six dioceses.) I tried to do the move myself, but for some reason it was rejected. Maybe there's a limit to name length? I've submitted a technical request, and hopefully we'll find out soon. — Lawrence King (talk) 06:22, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
